Kesha Attributes Her Glowing Skin to Salmon Sperm Facials
Kesha attributes her radiant skin to the much-discussed salmon sperm facial.
During the Tuesday, July 8, episode of Monica Lewinsky’s “Reclaiming” podcast, Kesha, 38, discussed the advantages of using placenta in beauty treatments before diverging into other skincare methods.
“I haven’t tried that yet,” Lewinsky mentioned regarding placenta usage. “Like salmon DNA on your face. I haven’t done that.”
Kesha chimed in, revealing that she had indeed “put the salmon DNA” on her “face.”
Lewinsky asked Kesha if she enjoyed the treatment and complimented her “gorgeous” complexion.
“Thank you. I owe it to the salmon sperm,” Kesha laughed. “It’s like a Korean secret.”
As reported by Vogue, a salmon sperm facial employs fragments of DNA from salmon sperm, known as polynucleotides. This substance is injected into the skin to enhance hydration and impart a dewy glow.
Dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner explained in a 2023 interview with PopSugar that salmon reproductive cells are known to enhance skin hydration, plumpness, texture, and minimize wrinkles.
“The skin benefits come from high DNA levels,” Zeichner said. “DNA is made up of amino acids, which have long been valued in skincare for their hydrating and cell-renewing properties.”
Results can persist for up to six months, with the average treatment costing $500.
Kesha isn’t the only celebrity to explore this beauty trend; the treatment gained popularity after Kim Kardashian openly revealed her experiences with it.
“I got [a] salmon sperm facial,” Kardashian stated in a July 2024 episode of The Kardashians. “With salmon sperm injected into my face.”
Other celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Charli XCX, and Denise Richards have also shared their experiences with the salmon sperm facial. Recently, Miley Cyrus disclosed that she too has tried the treatment.
“I tried that salmon sperm. Have you heard about that? I tried it,” she mentioned during a surprise performance at Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle Hotel in New York City last month.
Along with revealing that she had the facial done, Cyrus shared more details about the experience.
“Tastes funny, but my skin looks great,” she clarified, “I didn’t mean to ingest it. It’s just like a whole [face] mask.”
Cyrus lightened the mood with a joke.
“I never met the salmon,” she quipped. “It came pre-packaged.”
