Jennette began her career as a child star on Nickelodeon’s iCarly, Sam & Cat, Zoey 101, True Jackson, VP, and Victorious. After a short foray into music and more mature roles, she ultimately decided to leave acting to focus on writing and directing.

In 2022, Jennette published a memoir titled I’m Glad My Mom Died, which quickly topped the bestseller lists for its raw portrayal of her childhood marred by her mother’s abusive behavior.

“It’s something I genuinely mean,” Jennette expressed to BuzzFeed News in August 2022 regarding her book’s title. “I truly am glad. If she were still alive, I would be trapped. I wouldn’t have been able to make any significant choices in my life.”

When Will ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ Be Released?

Apple TV+ officially ordered the series for I’m Glad My Mom Died in July 2025. The debut season will feature 10 episodes, crafted, executive produced, and showrun by Jennette alongside Ari Katcher. Additional executive producers include Aniston, Sharon Horgan, Merman, LuckyChap, Jerrod Carmichael, and Erica Kay.

What Is the Show About?

According to the synopsis, I’m Glad My Mom Died offers “a poignant and humorous recount of McCurdy’s experiences as a former child actor navigating her overbearing and domineering mother.” This dramedy will focus on the co-dependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a popular kids’ series and her narcissistic mother, who revels in her identity as ‘the mother of a starlet.’

After embarking on a self-healing journey, Jennette McCurdy began to share her experiences of a difficult childhood and her complex relationships with family members. Aniston is currently the only confirmed cast member, marking I’m Glad My Mom Died as her second leading role in a TV series since Friends concluded in 2004. (Aniston is also featured in Apple TV+’s acclaimed series The Morning Show.) She is set to portray Jennette’s mother in the adaptation.

What Has Jennette Said About Her Complicated Relationship With Her Late Mother?

“I’ve been deeply moved by how the emotional core of the story resonates with others, reflecting my relationship with my mom,” Jennette shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter following her memoir’s release in 2022. “This important and intricate dynamic is vital to explore, and witnessing people’s responses — including to the humor and the themes of eating disorders and complex grief — has been incredible.”
