Jack Alcott Talks About the Gruesome Dexter Scene Featuring Harrison Disposing of a Body

Dexter: Resurrection kicked off with a gripping scene featuring the fictional serial killer’s son, Harrison, dismembering a body—one of the franchise’s most visceral moments to date.

In the series premiere, which aired on Sunday, July 13, Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) son is now residing in New York City after seemingly ending his father’s life at the conclusion of Dexter: New Blood. Harrison (Jack Alcott) is unaware of Dexter’s survival and grapples with guilt while holding a job at a luxury hotel.

Despite attempting to suppress his violent tendencies, Harrison loses control when a guest tries to sexually assault a woman. He kills the guest to prevent future harm, leading to a tense scene where the body is moved to another area of the hotel for dismemberment and disposal.

“It was an intense day. Anything with practical effects is both thrilling and challenging. There’s a lot of tangible material to work with,” Alcott, 26, shared exclusively with Us Weekly. “I remember my initial reaction to seeing the body parts and thinking, ‘Oh my God.’ It’s hard to know how to react, especially when I had to be handling them.”

Showtime’s spinoff of the original Dexter did not shy away from graphic details.

“Once filming began, the choreography for that scene was meticulous. There were numerous close-ups and various knife angles. Each movement was specifically planned,” Alcott elaborated. “From the sequence of body part dismemberment to how the knife traverses, we had to make sure to conceal any blood that might spill because we were preparing for an intense moment.”

The actor described the process as highly technical, noting, “[We focused on] the order in which the limbs went into trash bags and how the body bag was tied. The experience was so detail-oriented that I felt I wasn’t fully present because I was concentrated on the task.”

Alcott found the experience to be challenging in rewarding ways.

“Interestingly, this mirrors Harrison’s state of mind. It’s as if he’s disconnected from the reality of what he’s doing, zeroing in on his objective and just accomplishing it,” he remarked. “It’s only after the act is completed that we witness his emotional response to his actions.”

Having reprised his role as Harrison from Dexter: New Blood, Alcott reflected on the unique insights he gained from portraying a character that evolves into a serial killer.

“Stepping into the character’s shoes teaches you something new on every production. Each narrative offers its own lessons, whether or not the character resonates with you,” he said. “You’ll always walk away with new experiences from each project.”

Dexter: Resurrection is available for streaming on Paramount+ on Fridays and airs on Showtime on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
