Andrew Garfield Admits ‘Too Hot to Handle’ Is His Guilty Pleasure

Andrew Garfield admitting to being a secret fan of Netflix’s Too Hot to Handle makes us feel less ashamed about indulging in every season.

“My guilty pleasure is Too Hot to Handle on Netflix,” Garfield, 41, shared in his profile for W magazine on Friday, January 3. “F—, it’s really good. Sorry, this is like my pitch for those who haven’t seen Too Hot to Handle.

He went on, “So, they arrive at the island and they’re like, ‘Woo!’ in their swimwear. … After a day, there’s a party, and perhaps a couple of them will kiss, or maybe there will be some fellatio; it’s up to them. Then they learn they are actually on Too Hot to Handle.

Garfield further elaborated that there is a “prize pot of money” that contestants—described by host Desiree Burch as singles focused solely on sex without any intention of forming long-term relationships—can only win “if [they] don’t f— each other.”

“It’s overseen by this robot figure [named Lana], she informs them, ‘You’ve all been chosen because you are afraid of intimacy and genuine emotional connections. You will be here for a week, and if you engage in any physical interaction that isn’t rooted in a true emotional bond, you will be fined,’”

Garfield added, mimicking Lana’s robotic voice. “All of a sudden, you have these really horned-up individuals who are probably sex addicts having to avoid sexual activity unless given permission by Alana.”

According to Garfield, it transforms into an “amazing thing” when couples begin to open up emotionally.

“It’s beautiful,” he reflected. “You witness these participants starting to share their traumas and reveal how past experiences have affected their ability to trust. Guys who usually keep it tough begin to soften, becoming vulnerable and, of course, they’re scared to do it.”

Garfield went on, “Naturally, everyone around them is incredibly supportive, and it all evolves into something truly wonderful.”

Since its premiere in April 2020, Netflix has released six seasons of the dating show. Some couples from the series have remained together, including season 2’s Emily Miller and Cam Holmes, who welcomed their son Reggie in 2024.

Bri Balram and Demari Davis, who won season 6 aired in August 2024.

“We actually haven’t been paid yet,” Balram, 26, told Us Weekly exclusively at that time. “They were concerned we might elope and spend the money, so we haven’t been compensated yet.”

It’s unclear whether Balram and Davis, 27, have received their winnings, but they are still together.

Too Hot to Handle is available for streaming on Netflix.
