Below Deck Med’s Luke Leaves Prematurely Amid Controversial Sheets Incident
Below Deck Mediterranean’s scandal involving soiled sheets led to an unexpected departure from the cast.
In the episode that aired on Monday, July 27, Luke Brumer informed Captain Sandy Yawn that he believed it was time for him to leave Akira One. Sandy praised Luke for making the decision to step away after his conflicts with Nathan Gallagher distract from their work.
Luke chose not to inform the rest of the crew that this would be his final charter. He waited until the tip meeting to reveal he wouldn’t be staying on. Later that day, he departed from the boat, while the deck crew continued to face complications as Nathan tried to juggle his responsibilities at work and his role as a father.
Season 11, which debuted in June, included a franchise first when Luke hooked up with Genevieve Lillie in the cabin he shared with Nathan. They moved to Nathan’s bed, and Luke ended up in the bosun’s sheets—which he failed to mention to Nathan. Moreover, Luke did not replace Nathan’s sheets and allowed his boss to sleep in a soiled bed.
“I get increasingly frustrated the more I think about it. It’s incredibly disrespectful,” Nathan expressed during a July episode discussing the controversy. “I’m not joking. Should I go to Captain Sandy and inform her about it?”
Nathan labeled Luke’s actions as “disrespectful.”
“What irritates me is that Luke hasn’t mentioned this in three days,” Nathan elaborated. “He had a chance to tell me—and the fact that he’s saying nothing while everyone else is discussing it is what annoys me.”
He added: “It’s f***ing rude because you’ve disrespected me. If you continue to have issues with your job, it’s not going to end well for you, my friend. The slightest provocation can lead to you packing your bags.”
Captain Sandy also expressed her frustration when she learned about the situation.
“What Luke did is potentially a fireable offense. It’s unprecedented,” she stated. “I’ll decide how to approach this after the current charter. In the meantime—given the gravity of the matter—I need to write this report.”
Ultimately, Sandy’s report was added to Luke’s personal file, as she commented, “It’s official. Other captains will see this, and I hope Luke learns that he should be considerate of his bunkmate. There are protocols to follow.”
