Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys expressed his emotions as he watched his son, Baylee Littrell, pursue his dreams on American Idol.

The 22-year-old’s audition aired during the premiere of the singing competition’s 23rd season on March 9. New judge Carrie Underwood noticed something “familiar” about Baylee before he revealed his father’s identity.

“You have to forgive me; I didn’t have your dad’s posters on my wall,” teased Luke Bryan as Underwood, 41, remarked on Baylee’s resemblance to his father.

During his audition, Baylee shared how it felt to grow up in the limelight during the Backstreet Boys’ peak years, humorously noting he might have inherited his father’s vocal talent but not his dance moves.

After the performance, Bryan invited Baylee’s dad to join in on the chorus. Together, they sang, “I don’t know what to do anymore / I seem to be all alone in this war / Always by myself with no one by my side…”

After the impromptu duet, Underwood emphasized that Baylee’s talent shone bright. “For your superstar singer dad to perform here, it could overshadow you, but it didn’t. You held your ground strongly; this is your moment,” she stated.

As all three judges unanimously decided to send Baylee to Hollywood, Brian exclaimed in pride, “I’m going to cry. I’m in tears.”
