Top 3 New Movies on Prime Video to Enjoy This Weekend (July 10-12)

Feeling like diving into tales of dinosaurs, passionate cannibal love, and writers consumed by their careers? If so, you’re in for a treat with this article.

July brought a fresh batch of movies to Prime Video, and Watch With Us is excited to spotlight the top picks for your weekend viewing.

Dune: Part 3 is gearing up to take over the box office this holiday season, but lead actor Timothée Chalamet was already captivating audiences four years ago in the unique romance, Bones and All.

We at Watch With Us are avid fans of Adam Driver, and his performance as a rare sci-fi hero in the prehistoric thriller, 65, truly stood out for us.

Lastly, don’t miss Philip Seymour Hoffman in the titular role of Capote, which highlights why he’s still fondly remembered and respected even 12 years after his passing.

Young Maren (Taylor Russell) craves experiences beyond her sheltered upbringing and develops an appetite for human flesh, which explains why her father isolated her. Now that he’s gone, she embarks on a journey across the country, meeting others like her. Though she feels disgust towards the older cannibal Sully (Mark Rylance), she’s irresistibly drawn to Lee (Chalamet), a rebellious spirit who accepts her nature – even when it involves violence and consumption.

Did I mention Bones and All unfolds as an unexpectedly sweet love tale? The premise may suggest otherwise, but the film deftly evolves into a bizarre coming-of-age narrative about two outcasts residing outside societal boundaries. Chalamet, now a major cinematic star, displays the same compelling talent and magnetism that charmed audiences in his more family-centered role in Wonka.

Bones and All is available for streaming on Prime Video.

‘65’ (2023)

“65” refers to an era 65 million years ago when space pilot Mills (Adam Driver) crash-lands on an alien planet, later known as Earth. He is not alone; the only other survivor is a young girl, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), who speaks a language Mills struggles to understand. Their challenges multiply as they’re trapped on this inhospitable planet with scarce supplies and no clear escape route—plus, it’s inhabited by dinosaurs!

65 mixes elements of Alien and Jurassic Park, albeit on a smaller budget and with a tight cast. The outcome is a surprisingly effective B-movie that immerses you in the perilous prehistoric surroundings. Driver excels as a father figure to the often-silent Koa, who proves to be more capable than meets the eye.

65 is available for streaming on Prime Video.

‘Capote’ (2005)

In 1959, the Clutter family was brutally murdered by Perry Smith (Clifton Collins Jr.) and Dick Hickock (Mark Pellegrino). This shocking crime captivated the nation, especially author Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Seeking to write his next book, he travels to Kansas to document the crime and its subsequent trial. As he develops a relationship with Smith, he unwittingly crosses the line of journalistic integrity, finding himself emotionally invested in the narrative he’s crafting. Can Capote conclude his book without a definitive ending?

Capote is notably recognized as the film that earned Hoffman a deserving Best Actor Oscar. Yet, it offers more than just an acclaimed performance; it’s a profound exploration of a writer caught between empathy for his subject and ambition for his legacy. Capote finds himself fond of the killer he befriends, yet he requires his demise to provide closure to his book, which he knows will define his place in literary history. Both Hoffman and Collins Jr. deliver riveting performances, the latter revealing a complexity in his character that continues to be admired.

Capote is available for streaming on Prime Video.
