Bruce Campbell of Evil Dead Fame Reveals He Has Five Years to Live
Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell has shared a heartfelt health update after disclosing his recent cancer diagnosis.
“I’m facing a five-year prognosis,” the horror movie legend, 68, disclosed on the episode of “The Adam Carolla Show” podcast aired on Wednesday, September 2. “Given the type of cancer I have, which I prefer not to elaborate on, the current outlook is a five-year engagement.”
When host Adam Carolla inquired if this meant he was left with only “five years to live,” the actor confirmed it.
“Give or take,” he replied.
Back in March, Campbell had revealed that he received a diagnosis of an undisclosed form of cancer.
“Hello everyone, these days, when someone encounters a health challenge, it’s termed an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s refer to it that way — I’m having one of those,” he shared via X at that time. “It’s also referred to as a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ but not ‘curable.’”
The Army of Darkness star confessed that the diagnosis was a “shock,” adding that he opted to share his prognosis publicly due to his upcoming public engagements.
“I’m sharing this because, professionally, several changes are needed—appearances and conventions may have to take a back seat to treatment,” he stated at the time. “My goal is to recover as best as I can over the summer so that I can promote my new film Ernie & Emma this fall.”
He further remarked, “I have my regrets. The demands of treatment and professional commitments don’t always align.”
Campbell stars in and directs Ernie & Emma, with his wife, Ida Gearon, acting as a producer. This road-trip comedy tells the story of a widowed pear salesman embarking on an adventure to scatter his wife’s ashes. Ernie & Emma premiered last month in Medford, Oregon, where it was filmed, with a broader release planned for the fall.
“Don’t worry, I’m a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have strong support, so I expect to be around for a while,” the actor concluded back in March. “As always, you are the greatest fans in the world, and I hope to see you soon!”
During his appearance on the podcast, Campbell reiterated his intention regarding his cancer diagnosis, stating that he has chosen “very intentionally” to “live with it, not die from it.”
“Cancer is quite prevalent, but I’ve said enough, and I need to get back to living my life,” he wrote on X on Saturday, September 5.
