Chad Lowe’s Family Insights: His Daughter Fiona and Brother Rob Lowe
Chad Lowe and his brother, Rob Lowe, are iconic figures in the Hollywood landscape.
While Rob, 62, was a key member of Hollywood’s notorious “Brat Pack” during the 1980s, Chad, 58, carved out a successful acting career of his own. He earned the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award at the Emmys in 1993 for his performance in the ABC series Life Goes On.
Since then, Chad has taken on notable roles in ER, Melrose Place, 24, and most famously, Pretty Little Liars.
Outside of his acting career, Chad is married to producer Kim Painter, with whom he has three daughters, and he was previously married to two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank.
In September 2026, Chad and Kim tragically announced the passing of their second daughter, Fiona, who was only 13. The couple described Fiona as “a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and had a passion for dancing.”

Rob Lowe
Chad is the younger sibling of actor Rob, whose celebrated roles feature in the 1985 film St. Elmo’s Fire and television series like The West Wing and 9-1-1: Lone Star.
The brothers also have two half-brothers from their parents’ subsequent marriages.
Rob has two sons with his wife Sheryl Berkoff: Matthew, 33, and John, 30.
In January 2025, Rob shared how he was supporting Chad and his family after they lost their home in the L.A. wildfires.
“My brother Chad unfortunately lost his home [and] everything in it. The entire neighborhood [is] gone. He has three little girls, and all their friends [also] lost everything,” he stated at that time.
Rob mentioned that he was passing along “a lot of big brother hand-me-downs,” jokingly adding, “He’s back to being 15 again. He enjoys dressing like a dad, and I give him a lot of grief. So, I handed down my most dad-like Hokas [shoes].”
Kim Painter
Chad married film producer and casting director Kim in Los Angeles in August 2010, with their then 15-month-old daughter, Mabel, serving as the ringbearer.
The couple first became linked in January 2007 after Chad’s split from Hilary Swank.
As per Chad’s Instagram, Kim is an enthusiastic surfer.
“My wife possesses many incredible qualities: loving, caring, nurturing, adventurous, brave, and beautiful, just to name a few. She also happens to be an awesome surfer mom and winner of the @kswaveco ‘wave of the day’ trophy!!” he shared in a May tribute for her birthday. “By the way, she’s a year older today!! Happy birthday @kimlowe!! I love you so much!!”
Hilary Swank
Chad met his Oscar-winning first wife during the filming of the 1997 movie Quiet Days in Hollywood. The couple tied the knot in September 1997.
In 2000, Hilary, 52, famously omitted her then-husband from her acceptance speech when she received the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Boys Don’t Cry. Thankfully, she was able to thank him five years later when she won the award again for Million Dollar Baby in 2005. This time, Chad was the first person she acknowledged.
“I’m going to start by thanking my husband because I like to think I learn from past mistakes,” she said. “Chad, you mean the world to me. Thank you for your support. It means everything.”
Just a year after the 2005 Oscars, Chad and Hilary announced their separation in January 2006, with their divorce finalized in November 2007.
Mabel Lowe
Chad and Kim welcomed their eldest daughter, Mabel, now 17, in May 2009.
“Everyone is healthy and happy,” stated his representative at the time.
Mabel was part of her parents’ wedding in August 2010.
In May, Chad celebrated Mabel’s 17th birthday with a heartfelt Instagram tribute. “Please join me in wishing this beautiful soul a very happy 17th birthday!!” he wrote. “I cherish you so much @mabellowe_ !! I’m incredibly proud to be your Dadda ❤️.”
Fiona Lowe
Kim welcomed the couple’s second child, daughter Fiona, in November 2012.
“It’s a girl!!! And she’s as gorgeous as her mother (@ikimlowe) & big sister Mabel!! We feel blessed!” Chad announced via X at the time. “My wife @ikimlowe & I truly appreciate everyone for the warm wishes following the birth of our daughter Fiona Hepler Lowe!”
Fiona’s middle name, Hepler, honors the late mother of Rob and Chad, Barbara Lynn Wilson, who passed away in 2003.
“Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teenager today!! Keep dancing through life, FiBear! Love you so much!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Chad expressed in a post honoring Fiona’s 13th birthday last November.
In September 2026, Chad and Kim shared the heart-wrenching news of Fiona’s passing at the young age of 13.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our precious Fiona,” they stated in a public message.
“She was cherished by her sisters and immensely adored by her parents. Truly, she was the light of our lives,” they continued. “Her loss has left a profound void in our family, and we ask for your thoughts and respect during this difficult time,” the statement added. “If you or someone you know needs support for mental health issues, please connect with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”
Nixie Lowe
Nixie, now 10, is Chad and Kim’s youngest daughter, born in March 2016.
“She arrived a bit early but is both small and mighty. All is well,” Chad informed People at that time.
Nixie’s name is inspired by water spirits from Germanic folklore.
Chad shared that the name “felt fitting as we are both passionate surfers—my wife more so than I am—and are active with the Waterkeeper Alliance.”
Nixie’s middle name, Barbara, is also a tribute to Chad’s mother.
