Couple with a Combined Age of 202 Claims Title of World’s Oldest Newlyweds

Marjorie Fiterman and Bernie Littman have officially become the world’s oldest newlyweds, boasting a combined age of 202 years.

The duo, who found love after relocating to the same floor of a senior living facility in Philadelphia, broke the world record for the oldest couple to marry when they exchanged vows on May 19 after a nine-year courtship, as reported by Guinness World Records on December 3.

The bride is 102 years old, while the groom is 100.

Littman’s granddaughter, Sarah Sicherman, shared their charming love story with TODAY.com in June 2024. The couple initially met at a party at their retirement home and enjoyed their first romantic outing on the same day, she noted.

Both the bride and groom were previously married. Littman was married to his first wife for 65 years until her passing in 2012.

“We’re just so happy that he’s found someone he loves spending time with,” remarked Sicherman about her grandfather.

“It’s delightful that they have taken this step … and it brings joy to our family to share such wonderful news during these tumultuous times in the world,” she added.

Sicherman described the decision to marry as “spur of the moment.” The couple had been content to remain unmarried until Fiterman suffered a leg injury from a fall, she explained.

“There was this moment of realization: ‘I don’t want to live without you,’ which led to the question, ‘Why don’t we get married?’” Sicherman recalled.

The wedding was a traditional Jewish ceremony, attended by an intergenerational group of around 10 family members. Guests cheered for Littman, who uses a wheelchair, when he stood and shattered a glass with his foot at the conclusion of the ceremony, as is the custom for grooms.

While Fiterman has no children from her previous marriage, she is now a stepmother to Littman’s two children and shares his four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Following the couple’s wedding, family members applied to Guinness World Records to confirm their status as the oldest living married couple by aggregate age.

However, for the bride and groom, the title wasn’t their main focus.

“They’re simply delighted to be spending their time together,” Sicherman mentioned at the time.
