Did Cal and Maggie from Sullivan’s Crossing Get Engaged Before Season 5?
Sullivan’s Crossing features Cal and Maggie navigating numerous challenges before possibly getting engaged.
In Season 4, Maggie (Morgan Kohan) and Cal (Chad Michael Murray) confront various hurdles following the return of her ex-husband, Liam (Marcus Rosner). After a short breakup, Maggie and Cal find common ground, leading to a proposal from Cal.
However, complications arise when a social worker introduces Tracy, a member of Lola’s (Amalia Williamson) youth group, revealing that her foster parents can no longer care for her. This forces Cal and Maggie to consider becoming Tracy’s temporary guardians.
Based on a book series by Robyn Carr, Sullivan’s Crossing tells the story of neurosurgeon Maggie as she returns to her small-town roots in rural Nova Scotia, reconnecting with her estranged father, Sully (Scott Patterson), newcomer Cal, and other community members.
Sullivan’s Crossing was confirmed for a fifth season, set to debut in 2027 on CTV. Following its Canadian airing, the popular series is expected to release episodes on The CW and eventually stream on Netflix later in the summer after the cable broadcast concludes.
Before the Season 4 premiere, Us Weekly reported in March 2026 that Patterson would not be reprising his role as Harry “Sully” Sullivan.
“Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing concluded with Sully leaving for Ireland, marking a new chapter in his life. Season 4 begins the very next day with Sully still overseas,” Roth shared with Us. “While he isn’t physically present this season, the character remains vital to the storyline and may be included in future seasons if the creative direction aligns.”
Patterson later indicated the reason for his unexpected departure, stating on Instagram, “Creative differences became untenable, and I realized I couldn’t continue with the show.”
Patterson also clarified that leaving Sullivan’s Crossing wasn’t always his intention.
“It’s unfortunate that it is now suggested that they have moved on from me/Sully when the reality is quite the opposite,” he added. “Those who have spoken out are well aware of this, yet they chose to misrepresent the situation. I hadn’t planned to make a statement, but the fans of the books and the show deserve to know the truth, as I have always respected those who support this industry by engaging with and cherishing these characters we are so fortunate to portray.”
Amalia Williamson, currently starring with Brooke Shields on Acorn TV’s You’re Killing Me, has also expressed uncertainty about her future on the show.
“I don’t know,” she shared with Us, noting her filming schedule for You’re Killing Me, which has been renewed. “It depends on when we film our second season. I would love to return. I miss my Sullivan’s Crossing family.”
Sullivan’s Crossing is currently streaming on Netflix.
