Erin Andrews Explains Her Decision to Avoid Heels on NFL Sidelines
Sportscaster Erin Andrews shared her reasons for avoiding heels on the sidelines.
“First of all, let’s discuss what happens during a game,” Andrews, 48, commented during her September 2 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “You need to be in shape because you’re on your feet for four and a half hours, which is insane.”
She continued, “Another challenge is that while you might have a stylish outfit, sweetie, you are definitely going to be in flats.”
Andrews elaborated, “You’re navigating a field filled with wires, cameras, and 300-pound players … there’s so much going on that you’re high-stepping, tiptoeing, almost like you’re in pointe shoes. It’s absolute chaos.”
When host Alex Cooper inquired if she ever wore heels early in her career, before she learned the ropes, Andrews replied, “I can’t! I would just sink.”
“I consider myself a bit of a tomboy, and I prioritize comfort when it comes to footwear,” she remarked, mentioning that although she occasionally dons pointed-toe shoes, she quickly craves her sneakers “back.”
Despite her self-proclaimed “tomboy” style, Andrews has showcased plenty of chic outfits. In January, she made waves in a stunning faux fur coat during a game between San Francisco and the Philadelphia Eagles. Her Auter jacket featured a tan collar and black-and-white spotted fur adorning the bodice and sleeves.
Following her viral moment, Andrews discussed this look on her “Calm Down With Erin and Charissa” podcast. “This is a girl who typically walks around with a Tumi backpack, a North Face jacket, and in ski gear every week,” she noted. “I thought it was so much fun and stylish, a departure from my usual style. I felt proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and having a bit of fun!”
Additionally, she clarified that the jacket was not made from real fur. “What world do you guys think I live in, where I would wear real fur as an animal lover?” she said. “I’m not wearing real fur, idiot! I even started an animal sanctuary!”
