George and Amal Clooney Forced to Evacuate Home Due to French Wildfires
George and Amal Clooney have left their residence in France due to wildfires engulfing the area.
Us acquired a letter that the couple, aged 65 and 48 respectively, sent to Didier Brémond, mayor of the southeastern French village of Brignoles. (The Clooneys have resided in an 18th-century farmhouse in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region since 2021.)
The Clooneys expressed, “Dear Didier, at this moment, we are uncertain whether our lovely home will survive this tragic situation, and as we evacuate Brignoles, we want to highlight two key points: first, we hope you and the people of our town are safe, and second, Amal and I are dedicated to ensuring that whatever happens to our village, we will remain part of this community and contribute to its recovery. We cherish Brignoles and our friends who live there.”
Wildfires, exacerbated by an intense heatwave, have devastated Europe recently, leading to widespread evacuations across France, Greece, Italy, and Spain.
CNN reported that over 3,000 individuals have been evacuated from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, where the Clooneys reside, while French and Spanish officials confirmed that more than 250,000 people in total have been evacuated across both nations due to the fires.
“In these critical moments when the flames are severely challenging our nation, France showcases what it truly is: a united people, standing together,” French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted on Saturday, July 25. “Thanks to our firefighters, military personnel, civil security forces, gendarmes, and police officers, as well as farmers and entrepreneurs, who, through their dedication and bravery, tirelessly fight the fires.”
Macron, 48, continued, “All civil and military resources are mobilized: civil security aerial assets, Canadair, Dash, water-bomber helicopters, reinforcements from across France. … Our thoughts also extend to Spain, Italy, Greece, and all the people grappling with wildfires.”
“We will reconstruct, we will mend, and we will stand by as long as needed,” the politician pledged.
George and Amal possess several properties across Europe, including the historic Mill House estate in Berkshire, England, and a residence known as Villa Oleandra in Lake Como, Italy.
Last October, Clooney shared with The Guardian that he relocated his family to France to provide his 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, with the best possible upbringing.
“We live on a farm in France,” he stated. “A significant part of my childhood was spent on a farm [in Kentucky], and as a kid, I disliked the idea. But now, for [the twins], it’s different – they’re not glued to their iPads, you know? They enjoy dinner with adults and have to clear their dishes.”
The two-time Oscar winner elaborated, “They have a much richer life. I was concerned about raising our children in LA, amidst the Hollywood culture. I felt they would never have a fair shot at life. France – they kind of don’t care about fame. I don’t want them to worry about paparazzi. I don’t want them compared to other famous kids.”
George and Amal officially acquired French citizenship along with their twins in December 2025, according to a naturalization decree published by the French newspaper Journal Officiel.
