Husky Escapes Yard and Heads to Daycare on Her Own in TikTok Video

A 5-year-old husky mix named Missy had a vet appointment on Monday, rather than a daycare slot. However, Missy had other intentions. She managed to dig her way out from beneath the back gate of her yard in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, followed her usual path, and arrived at Spot’s Place daycare just before 11 a.m. — muddy and ready for fun.

A video capturing Missy’s solo adventure has gone viral on TikTok, with additional amusing details from both her owner and the daycare staff.

Reactions from Daycare Staff to Missy’s Surprise Visit

As staff at Spot’s Place spotted Missy running around in the parking lot, they quickly welcomed her in. Her home is just a few minutes away.

“We were basically like, ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing here?!’” said the staff members, according to USA TODAY. “We couldn’t believe she came by herself.”

When authorities dismantled a significant cockfighting operation in Pennsylvania in 2025, approximately 300 chickens were discovered in miserable conditions, forced to fight. Charges exceeding 300 were filed for animal cruelty. The aftermath was distressing — but it sparked one of the most incredible rescue initiatives in history.

“What was most striking was how she acted like it was just another day,” they added. “She appeared as if to say, ‘Hey guys, I’m here! Sorry I’m late!’”

Described as energetic and sociable, Missy adores playing with other dogs and getting cuddles from humans. Most importantly, she clearly cherishes her routine. After her unexpected visit, staff called her owner to come pick her up.

The Details of Missy’s Great Escape

Missy’s owner, Heath Hrappstead, later recounted how Missy managed to get away.

“It all began when I left for work that morning. Usually, she preps with me and we bike over together. I ride the bike there, then return to work,” Hrappstead explained to CBC.

“That day, however, she stayed home. I noticed she was whimpering, clearly upset that I had left without her.”

While Hrappstead’s partner ran errands, Missy made her move.

“She got a call from Spot’s Place saying Missy had dug her way out under the back gate and had taken herself to daycare,” Hrappstead shared.

“It seems she followed the same route we usually take on our morning bike ride.”

Missy typically attends Spot’s Place from Monday to Friday, and since she bikes there every day, she knows the way quite well. This wasn’t her first adventurous escape.

“It’s the second time she’s gotten out. Last time was similar, but she didn’t dig out; she managed to slip through the gate. I suppose I need to reinforce things a bit more.”

Muddy and Eager to See Her Pal

Spot’s Place staffer Mackenzie Hoffman described Missy’s state upon arrival.

“She was covered in mud, clearly after her little escape adventure,” Hoffman noted.

Missy seemed delighted to reunite with her buddy Shaggy, another dog at daycare she has become quite close to.

“We thought, ‘This is perfect, she gets to see Shaggy.’ We figured they must miss each other; she came all this way to see him,” Hoffman remarked.

A newborn kitten had only been alive for about 48 hours when a tornado struck near Gun Lake in Michigan. Somehow, the tiny kitten survived amidst the wreckage. Rescuers found him in the storm debris and rushed him to Kittens In The Mitten, a rescue organization that recognized the urgency of his situation.

“They hit it off right away,” Hoffman added about Missy and Shaggy’s connection. “While Missy meets other friends here, they definitely stick together the most.”

Missy’s Heartwarming Daycare Story

Missy has been visiting Spot’s Place for approximately four years.

“Initially, she came twice a week, but after her brother passed away, we started bringing her daily to aid her grieving process,” staff shared.

Hrappstead detailed what the regular drop-off involves.

“When I drop her off in the morning, the staff are really great with her,” Hrappstead explained. “She always arrives with her tail wagging … we refer to it as butt-wagging because her whole body is moving with excitement.”

Missy made it back home safely after her adventurous solo trip and was all set for daycare the next day.
