Jelly Roll Discusses the Impact of His Daughter’s Mother’s Addiction on Her Life
Jelly Roll has addressed the effect addiction has had on his family life.
In a recent appearance on the March 26 episode of “The Pivot” podcast, the 40-year-old country musician opened up about the news surrounding his ex-partner’s arrest for drug possession, which was reported by the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office. (Us Weekly has contacted her legal representative for a statement.)
“It shattered my daughter’s heart,” Jelly Roll conveyed to cohosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor. “She’s 16, 17 years old and knows her mother is struggling with addiction, but seeing her mother’s mugshot …”
As he fought back tears, the “Need a Favor” artist acknowledged that his daughter is grappling with a complex situation.
“I’m 40 years old, I’ve been through extensive therapy, and I have a strong relationship with God that helps me cope, but I just have to pray and move forward,” he expressed. “But for her, she’s just 16; she doesn’t have those tools yet. She’s still learning them, and this is painful for her.”
Even though Jelly Roll, who is also the father of 8-year-old son Noah, does not use a phone, he became aware of his ex’s legal issues when someone advised him to check on his daughter.
Jelly Roll pondered whether his public figure status contributed to the media coverage of the situation.
“I’ve allowed the world into my living room, so I have to accept the consequences that come with that,” he reflected. “This responsibility falls more on me than anyone else, but I’m thankful I can share my experiences.”
Jelly Roll was 23 years old and behind bars when he learned about the birth of his daughter Bailee Ann, a moment that inspired him to turn his life around.
In 2016, Jelly Roll married Bunnie XO, and they eventually gained full custody of Bailee Ann due to her mother’s struggles with addiction.
“As a teenager, I’ve moved on,” Bailee Ann shared in the Hulu documentary Jelly Roll: Save Me. “I’ve worked through my childhood. But that doesn’t erase my past. It has shaped me into who I am today.”
During his recent podcast discussion, Jelly Roll emphasized the reality that addiction impacts countless families, turning many into victims of this disease.
“My daughter’s mother has battled drug addiction since she was born,” he remarked. “I’ve witnessed the effects on her. The addict isn’t the only victim here; the family suffers too. Of course, the addict is also a victim of their illness.”
