Josh Groban’s ‘Over the Rainbow’ Performance Leaves Fans with ‘Goosebumps’
Fans are ecstatic about Josh Groban’s rendition of “Over the Rainbow.”
On March 7, during his visit to “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the singer-songwriter delivered a heartfelt performance of this timeless classic, which was originally featured in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz.”
Originally sung by Judy Garland, Groban’s interpretation of “Over the Rainbow” highlighted his classical tone and velvety voice, drawing praise from fans on social media.
“Josh Groban could sing ‘row, row, row your boat’ and make it sound incredible,” one admirer commented on a TikTok video of his performance posted by “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
“I would give up carbs just to hear Josh Groban,” another fan humorously remarked.
“He’s the only artist that gives me chills when he sings! Beautiful as ever, Josh!” one supporter commented on an Instagram video of the performance.
“You are simply PERFECT,” another fan expressed.
Fans had initially hoped that Clarkson would join Groban for a duet during the performance. The two previously collaborated in 2015 during Groban’s PBS special “Josh Groban: Stages Live,” where they performed “All I Ask of You” from the musical “The Phantom of the Opera.”
“I was expecting Kelly to join in and sing along with Josh!! That would’ve been amazing!!” one fan exclaimed on TikTok.
During his appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Groban told guest host Wanda Sykes that performing the song is “terrifying,” though it remains one of his favorites.
“As a vocalist, you wonder, ‘Why should I be the 5000th person to sing it?’” Groban conveyed to Sykes. “But with a fantastic arrangement and the best musicians backing you, it’s truly a joy.”
Groban, 44, shared that his recorded cover of “Over the Rainbow” will be included in his upcoming album “Gems,” which is expected to be released on May 2. He has performed the song several times throughout his career, including a rendition for his 2015 album “Stages.”
“This song has meant so much to me during my career, and we wanted to make sure to include it,” Groban explained.
