Linda Perhacs Located Safe After Being Reported Missing
UPDATE 7/30/26, 4 a.m. ET: Folk artist Linda Perhacs has been “located safely” following reports from worried friends who stated she was missing earlier this week.
“We are pleased to announce that singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs has been found and is safe,” stated Perhacs’ former manager Laurel Stearns in a message to Rolling Stone on Thursday, July 30. “After a period of concern where friends, collaborators, and members of the music community were unable to reach Linda, police reports were filed. Law enforcement has now confirmed that she is safe.”
The message continued, “We express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped amplify this effort by sharing information, offering support, and showing genuine concern for Linda’s well-being. The positive response from fans, fellow musicians, journalists, and the wider creative community has highlighted the significant impact of Linda’s music. We are particularly thankful to the authorities for their support and to all those who worked behind the scenes to provide clarity in this situation.”

Folk singer Linda Perhacs was reported missing a few months after being discharged from a residential care facility.
Perhacs’ friend Mark McNeill made a public appeal for help via Instagram on Monday, July 27, stating, “Linda Perhacs, our beloved friend and iconic singer-songwriter, was released from a residential care facility about eight months ago under her guardian’s supervision.”
McNeill noted that Perhacs’ loved ones have been unable to establish contact with her.
“Since then, friends and longtime collaborators have struggled to reach her, and repeated attempts to contact her guardian have reportedly gone unanswered,” he added.
In his social media post, McNeill encouraged followers to reach out to Perhacs’ former manager, Laurel Stearns, via email with any “verified information regarding Linda’s whereabouts or means of contact.”
McNeill’s message was also shared by Stearns, Jessica Hundley, who directed the music video for Perhacs’ song “Prisms of Glass,” and musician Julia Holter.
Stearns publicly addressed her former client’s disappearance in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, expressing that “concern is growing” among Perhacs’ close friends, collaborators, and members of the music community.
According to Stearns, “numerous friends and longtime collaborators have reported difficulties in establishing direct contact” with Perhacs since her discharge.
“Repeated efforts to communicate with her guardian have also gone unanswered,” she added.
At 83 years old, Perhacs is renowned for her debut album, Parallelograms, which was released in 1970.
Despite modest sales, the album garnered renewed interest three decades later and was reissued several times amidst growing demand during the New Weird America movement.
Perhacs later released The Soul of All Natural Things in 2014, followed by her third studio album, I’m a Harmony, three years afterward.
