Luke Combs Talks About Potential Involvement in Taylor Sheridan’s Show

Taylor Sheridan has taken pleasure in casting country singers in his productions — might Luke Combs usweekly be the next?

“If they just want me to play myself, then great. I’m in,” Combs, 36, stated exclusively to Us Weekly at the Time100 Gala on Thursday, April 23.

However, Combs expressed uncertainty about taking on a scripted role.

“I don’t know if I’m cut out for TV. I’ve got a face for radio,” he remarked. “I’ve been fortunate in that regard. But I want to make time for my wife and kids and not overcommit to things I might not excel in—or perhaps I could be good at.”

Dutton Ranch’s Morgan Wade isn’t the only country artist making the leap to scripted TV. Jelly Roll made his acting debut with a standout role in season 3 of Fire Country, after which the show’s star and executive producer, Max Thieriot, told Us Weekly that he “reached out first” to Jelly Roll.

The musician is already quite busy. He mentioned to Us, “I have so much going on with music. I want to give everything I can to that because I have a large team and many people relying on me to create music, perform, and engage with fans. It’s important to me to commit fully.”

Recently, an increasing number of country artists have shifted to scripted TV roles. After appearing as himself on Tulsa King, Jelly Roll took on a fictional character in season 3 of Fire Country, marking his first foray into acting.

“[Jelly Roll] and I crossed paths in the bathroom at the CMT awards [in April 2024]. I approached him to thank him for allowing us to use his songs on the show,” Max Thieriot said to Us in 2025. “He then expressed his desire to join the show. He called me the following day, demonstrating his sincerity.”

Thieriot, 37, praised Jelly Roll for being collaborative.

“We worked together to create a character that was intriguing, unique, and important, while still reflecting his message of second chances,” he shared with Us. “However, we aimed for it to differ from his everyday persona as a country singer.”

He concluded, “I’m uncertain if we will see more country singers. I plan to set up a chair in the bathroom at the next awards show to welcome them as they arrive. We’ve been in discussions with a few for some time now, and I think it would be fun to possibly see both [Kane and Jelly Roll] reprise their characters in some way.”

Over on CBS, star Riley Green appeared in several episodes as a former Navy SEAL. Morgan Wade is also set to become a part of the Sheridan universe when Dutton Ranch premieres in April.

Sheridan has previously cast Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as fictional couple James and Margaret Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel series 1883, which aired from 2021 to 2022.
