Martin Lawrence’s Daughter and Eddie Murphy’s Son Celebrate New Arrival
Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy now share the joy of a grandchild after Martin’s daughter Jasmin Lawrence and Eddie’s son Eric Murphy welcomed their baby.
“They just had a baby girl,” Eddie, 65, shared with E! News on Saturday, April 18. “She was born about a week or two ago. Her name is Ari Skye.”
However, Eddie offered no advice to the new parents.
“You don’t give advice like that,” he joked with the outlet. “Kids don’t really follow what you say; they watch what you do. So, I don’t give much advice.”
Jasmin and Eric have not made any further announcements about their daughter’s birth, although they revealed her pregnancy in February via Instagram.
“Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift ❤️❤️❤️,” they wrote in their joint post.
In the maternity photos, Eric laid his head on Jasmin’s baby bump in one black-and-white shot, while Jasmin cradled her belly in beautiful solo captures.
Martin also celebrated the news on his Instagram, stating:
“What a blessing to start the day! My heart is full of love and gratitude at the announcement of my first grandchild! Watching @jasmin_lawrence and @ericmurphy777 begin this parenthood journey means so much to me. Family is everything — and this moment is a true blessing from God. Welcome to the next generation!”
Eddie shared his thoughts on the idea of Eric and Jasmin starting a family months before their pregnancy announcement.
“I never push them,” he told E! News in July 2025. “It’s a beautiful blessing, and whenever it happens, it happens.”
Jasmin is the oldest of Martin’s three daughters, whom he shares with ex-wife Patricia Southall, along with Iyanna and Amara with ex-wife Shamicka Gibbs.
Eric is the oldest of Eddie’s ten kids, his mother being Eddie’s ex-girlfriend Paulette McNeely.
Eddie also has children Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell, Christian with ex-girlfriend Tamara Hood, Angel with ex-girlfriend Mel B, and Izzy and Max with his wife Paige Butcher.
Eric and Jasmin publicly acknowledged their relationship in June 2021. The following year, she revealed how they met.
“My uncle actually introduced us — not our dads,” she told In Touch Weekly in 2022. “They acted in two movies together. It’s a bit crazy, but we met through my uncle and developed a close friendship.”
She added, “We have similar backgrounds, allowing us to connect on a deeper level, and as time went on, it just blossomed.”
Eric and Jasmin announced their engagement in November 2024. In May, Eddie confirmed that they had a small church wedding weeks earlier.
“They decided on a quiet ceremony instead of a grand wedding with big plans,” Eddie shared on The Jennifer Hudson Show, humorously mentioning that Martin wouldn’t need to fund an extravagant wedding.
Eddie remarked about his comedic counterpart, “We’re now in-laws.”
When Martin appeared on the show, he shared his and Eddie’s views on Jasmin and Eric’s relationship.
“We want the best for our kids,” he explained. “We give them space to make their decisions and stay out of their affairs, allowing them to find their own way.”
