Marvel Unveils Cast for X-Men Reboot and Announces Premiere Date
Get ready, X-Men fans! Marvel Studios has revealed a dazzling cast for the eagerly awaited new X-Men film at the 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event panel.
Straight from her role as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sadie Sink took to the stage at the D23 Expo on Friday, August 14, joined by Marvel chief Kevin Feige and director Jake Schreier to introduce the rest of the X-Men cast.
Heartstopper star Kit Connor is set to enter the MCU as Cyclops, teaming up with Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd who will portray Storm.
During the presentation, Feige, who is 53, hinted at “someone else who wished to attend.”
“Hello, D23,” Star Wars actor Adam Driver mentioned in a brief video shared with the audience, announcing his role as Nathaniel Milbury/Mister Sinister.
The fresh adaptation of X-Men is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
Based on the iconic Marvel Comics franchise, there have been numerous live-action adaptations including the original X-Men trilogy from 2000, X-Men: First Class from 2011, and spin-offs like Logan (2017) and Dark Phoenix (2019). Details about this new version remain scarce.
“Having grown up with the original films, I find it amazing that we’re working on something that feels like a new take,” Connor, 22, shared with Good Morning America during a later cast interview on Friday. “[It’s] an exciting different approach.”
Director Schreier also hinted to GMA about how his version would stand apart from previous adaptations.
“Marvel has produced incredible films in this universe, and we need to explore stories that haven’t been pursued yet from various corners of the universe,” Schreier, 44, commented on Friday. “There are countless untold tales we can draw from, and I’m excited about collaborating with this remarkable cast to create something fresh. It’s vital to respect the original while adding our unique vision for the future.”
Sink’s interpretation of Jean Grey was first showcased in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which premiered last month.
“Providing [Jean] with a backstory is crucial—especially considering her actions in the film. She’s quite flawed,” Sink, 24, expressed to Variety regarding her entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “We meet her at a peculiar moment; she doesn’t desire to harm others, yet she has experienced hurt, which is all she knows. Crafting her backstory and the motives behind her actions is profoundly impactful.”
After—spoiler alert—rescuing Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland) from brink of death, Jean departed New York City on a bus, leading fans to speculate that she was heading to the X-Men school.
“Honestly, I’m not sure yet,” she joked when asked about Jean’s future. “When I say ‘I don’t know,’ I genuinely mean I have no idea.”
