Meghan Markle’s Dog Trainer Passes Away: ‘I’ve Shed Countless Tears’
Meghan Markle is grieving the loss of her beloved dog, nearly a decade after she rescued the beagle from a Canadian shelter.
“I have shed more tears than I can count — the kind that make you hope that a shower will wash them away, or help you forget they exist,” Markle, 43, expressed on Instagram on January 7. “But they are real. And that’s perfectly okay.”
She reminisced about meeting her future pet, whom she named Guy, in 2015. He was at a kill shelter in Kentucky and was only given a few days to live.
“I scooped him up and fell head over heels,” she shared. “They called him ‘the little guy’ because he was so tiny and fragile, so I named him ‘Guy’. He truly was the best companion a girl could ever wish for.”
The Duchess of Sussex shared how Guy was there through her journey as she worked on her former blog, The Tig, and while filming Suits. He was also present during her important moments with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
“He was with me for everything: the serene moments, the chaos, the peace, and the joy,” she reflected. “From my engagement to my marriage and even in motherhood.”
Markle posted several photos of Guy in her tribute, noting that he will make appearances in her upcoming Netflix series titled With Love, Meghan.
According to Netflix’s summary, the show “reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming,” centering around Markle as she “blends practical advice and heartfelt discussions with friends.” It will also showcase her life in California.
“Since many of you will see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand the depth of my sorrow over his loss,” Markle shared. “I believe you might fall in love with him too.”
In her heartfelt tribute, Markle recalled a “terrible accident” Guy experienced before she moved to the UK. He underwent multiple surgeries, taking months to recover away from home.
“Veterinarians said he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick assured me he could,” she recounted. “H and I would drive for hours, late at night, to be with Guy as he healed in Surrey. I will forever be thankful to Noel and his team, the staff at Queen West Animal Hospital in Toronto, and my devoted friends and community: Thank you for your love for him.”
In a final note to her followers, Markle advocated for pet adoption rather than purchasing pets, continuing to express her gratitude for the joyful moments she shared with Guy.
“Thank you for the countless years of unconditional love, my dearest Guy,” she wrote. “You enriched my life in ways you could never know ❤️🩹 #adoptdontshop.”
