Megyn Kelly Criticizes Sydney Sweeney’s Baby Scene in Euphoria
Megyn Kelly is criticizing Sydney Sweeney’s “disturbing” scene in a Euphoria season 3 teaser clip.
“She’s wearing a baby costume and sucking on a pacifier, with her legs completely spread,” Kelly, 55, remarked on the Tuesday, April 14, episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, commenting on a viral image of Sweeney’s character, Cassie, producing content for her OnlyFans account.
Kelly condemned the portrayal of Cassie dressed as a baby for “sexualizing childhood.”
“This serves as another instance of Hollywood failing to grasp the boundaries, and how even Sydney Sweeney’s fans may react negatively to the sexualization of a young child,” Kelly added.
The former Fox host stated that the scene “appears to aim at lowering your defenses regarding one of the most horrifying crimes imaginable.”
Regarding Sweeney, 28, Kelly said, “I can’t believe she went along with this.” She also criticized another scene in which Cassie is depicted as “a dog on a leash” in the premiere episode, which aired on Sunday, April 12.
Kelly attributed much of the issue to show creator Sam Levinson, labeling him a “sick jerk” for crafting the excessively sexualized storylines. (Levinson defended Sweeney’s provocative scenes in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday, explaining, “We aimed to reveal another layer of absurdity that we could incorporate to stay away from being overly immersed in her fantasy or illusion. The joke is to break the wall.”)
The premiere episode provided insight into Cassie’s relationship with Nate (Jacob Elordi) years after high school as the couple prepares for a lavish wedding ceremony. Nate is now managing his father’s construction business and working hard to finalize his Sun Settlers community, aimed to be an upscale “end-of-life transitional facility in Southern California.”
Meanwhile, Cassie is focused on ensuring their wedding represents absolute opulence, demanding they allocate $50,000 for floral designs. When Nate refuses, suggesting a more reasonable budget of $5,000, Cassie claims they have a “problem” and proposes starting an OnlyFans account for flirty interactions and steamy content to earn extra money.
Sweeney previously discussed her character’s development this season during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“This season, she’ll go to any lengths to gain fame and makes a number of wild, intriguing choices,” Sweeney stated on April 8. “In classic Cassie style! She will not let you down, that’s for sure.”
If season 3 marks the conclusion of the series, Sweeney reflected that it would be a tough realization, explaining, “Cassie has been such a significant part of my life, making it a bittersweet moment, without a doubt.”
