Meredith Marks of RHOSLC Commends Mary Cosby Following Her Son’s Passing
Meredith Marks is opening up about the challenges of filming a reality show while her co-star Mary Cosby copes with the loss of her son, Robert Cosby Jr.
During an appearance on Nova’s “Jase, Lauren and Clint” on Thursday, August 13, Meredith, 54, was asked how she and her co-stars managed to continue filming The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City “when people are facing such painful, raw emotions.”
In February, Robert Jr. passed away at the age of 23 due to a suspected overdose in his parents’ home in Utah. Season 7, which is set to premiere on September 16, will showcase Mary, 53, as she navigates her grief.
While on the radio show, Meredith expressed her admiration for Mary and her approach to dealing with the tragedy.
“Mary, you’ll see, her strength is incredibly inspiring. She has handled the entire situation so gracefully, and I believe it will be remarkable to witness,” Meredith shared. “It will undoubtedly be very challenging for her. I think that … the show provided her with an additional focus during this very tough period.”
Meredith noted that publicly confronting personal struggles and having those issues resurface later is a significant downside to their profession.
“That’s the downside of reality TV. You end up reliving moments later on,” she acknowledged.
Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Nepola, who joined Meredith on the radio show, added, “that makes it even tougher.”
“When those situations occur, we all see how they unfold. A blogger will post about it on social media, and then the entire world tunes in,” Alexia, 59, explained. “Not everyone is going to perceive it the same way. That’s what makes it so difficult for us. Not only do we relive those moments months later, but then, once it’s released on social media, everyone weighs in with their opinions, which can be really challenging. You need to have thick skin to manage that.”
Mary confirmed her son’s passing in a statement to Us on February 25.
“Our beloved son, Robert Jr., has been called home to the Lord,” Mary shared at that time. “While our hearts are heavy, we find solace in God’s promise and know he is finally at peace. We appreciate your prayers and trust in the Lord to guide us through this sorrowful period.”
Robert Jr.’s battle with addiction was documented over several seasons of RHOSLC, with viewers often commending Mary for her candid discussions about her son’s struggles.
