Michael Jackson’s Son Prince Expresses the Weight of Living Up to His Father’s Legacy
Prince Jackson, the son of Michael Jackson, opened up about his father’s legacy during a rare interview.
“I hail from a very rich family history, and it’s no small task to fill those shoes,” Prince, 27, shared with Associated Press on Thursday, December 19. “I can’t say I ever could, but I carry it with … it’s like a badge of honor.”
He mentioned that he and his siblings — sister Paris Jackson, 26, and brother Bigi Jackson, 22 — have embraced their father’s spirit in various ways.
“My siblings and I each carry a part of him in our own ways,” Prince stated. “For me, it’s about philanthropy and giving back, which I’m deeply passionate about. I just hope our efforts make him proud.”
To honor his father, Prince co-founded the nonprofit organization Heal Los Angeles in 2016 while studying at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Before the holiday season, he hosted an event at a Mattel toy store on Tuesday, allowing children to pick out toys to take home.
“It warms my heart to see the kids smiling by the end of the day,” he expressed. “It’s truly joyful.”
Michael Jackson welcomed Prince and Paris with his ex-wife Debbie Rowe, whom he was married to from 1996 to 1999. Their brother Bigi was born via surrogate in 2002.
As they reflected on Michael’s legacy during the 15th anniversary of his passing, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the “King of Pop” would be proud of his children’s current paths. (Michael passed away at the age of 50 in 2009.)
“Some may let nepotism inflate their egos, but they are quite the opposite,” the insider noted, while another source highlighted that Prince “loves riding motorcycles and is dedicated to charity work.”
Although Prince has been in a relationship with his college sweetheart Molly Schirmang for over seven years, he has no immediate plans for marriage.
“Molly isn’t fazed by Prince’s fame or his family background,” a third insider shared in April, adding that Schirmang has a great rapport with Paris and Bigi. “They have a shared vision for their lives and are taking things one day at a time.”
While managing his relationship with Schirmang, Prince maintains a strong bond with his younger siblings.
“They are each other’s best friends and always support one another,” the second source revealed. “Michael would be incredibly happy.”
