Nick Cannon Holds Memorial Service for Son Following His Passing

Nick Cannon and his family commemorated the life of his and Alyssa Scott‘s late son, Zen, marking five years since his passing.

“What a wonderful celebration of life for our Angel Zen Scott Cannon,” the Wild ‘n Out creator, 45, shared alongside photos from the event via Instagram on Thursday, June 25.

He included a Bible verse, stating, “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made His light shine in our hearts. — 2 Corinthians 4:6.”

He concluded with, “Zen’s Light will forever shine in our hearts. We love you my son ❤️🕊️🙏🏾.”

Cannon and his guests, including Scott, 32, and their 3-year-old daughter, Halo, donned white attire as they gathered on a beach for the event. In one picture, the group posed beside a black-and-white image of Zen, who passed away at 5 months old in December 2021. Another image captured Cannon and Scott slicing into a cake adorned with Zen’s photo and a gold “5” candle on top.

Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott united their families to honor their late son, Zen. “Thank you for all the love and support that everyone sent our way today,” Cannon, 43, expressed on Instagram on Sunday, June 23. “Truly appreciate everyone who showed up and celebrated our beautiful Angel 👼🏽 ZEN […]

In the days leading up to the celebration, Cannon paid tribute to Zen on what would have been his 5th birthday.

“6/23 will forever be a day of light!” he captioned an Instagram post. “Turning our pain to purpose! We celebrate the life of our Young King Zen Scott Cannon! We cherish our beautiful son and the precious moments we shared physically and the ongoing energy we connect with in Spirit daily.”

Cannon and Scott welcomed Zen in June 2021. Two months later, the comedian disclosed that their baby boy had been diagnosed with a high-grade glioma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer.

“The conversations quickly shifted to, ‘How can we provide him the best life during the time he has left?’ It could be weeks, months, or even years,” Cannon recalled in an interview with People following Zen’s passing.

Ultimately, Scott and Cannon chose to forgo invasive treatments in favor of ensuring their son was “as happy as possible” in the weeks leading up to his death.

“We were having quality-of-life conversations,” Cannon continued. “We could have had a scenario where he lived in the hospital, connected to machines, for the rest of his days. Having faced chemotherapy myself, I understand that pain. To witness that inflicted upon a 2-month-old was something I couldn’t bear. I wanted to spare him from suffering.”

In June 2022, Cannon and Scott established Zen’s Light Foundation, which aims to promote “global excellence in hope, grief care, and pediatric healthcare for families and children in need,” as stated by the Masked Singer host at that time.

Since then, Cannon and Scott welcomed Halo in December 2022. The podcaster is also a father to twins Moroccan and Monroe, 15, with ex Mariah Carey; Golden Sagon, 9, Powerful Queen, 5, and Rise Messiah, 3, with Brittany Bell; twins Zion and Zillion, 4, and Beautiful Zeppelin, 3, with Abby De La Rosa; Legendary Love, 3, with Bre Tiesi; and Onyx, 3, with LaNisha Nicole.
