Ransom Canyon Creator Discusses Cast Changes for Season 3
Ransom Canyon showrunner April Blair shared her insights for season 3, hinting at exciting cast changes ahead.
“We will definitely see some new faces,” Blair revealed exclusively to Us. “I’m eager to delve deeper into Lucas and Kit’s parents, as we haven’t explored that aspect yet.”
Blair expressed her desire to enrich Lucas’ (Garrett Wareing) narrative, stating, “I want to introduce someone new to the storyline so Lucas can experience fresh love and bring some fun to the mix.”
Beyond the Russell family, Blair aims to incorporate more musical performances.
“We might introduce a new musical element to our plot. In season 1, we featured Charley Crockett at Gracie’s, and in season 2, we had a grand festival with Jordan Davis and Thomas Rhett,” she explained. “We’re exploring different ways to integrate music into our show because it’s a crucial part of our narrative.”
She added: “Could we bring in a musician as a character? Quinn is creating a musical hub. With Gracie’s and her plans for the old theater, what new dynamics will that introduce to the town?”
Blair hinted that the “possibilities are infinite” for season 3.
Inspired by Jodi Thomas‘ book series centered on a town bursting with drama, romance, and hope, Ransom Canyon debuted in April 2025, introducing Us to the residents of Texas Hill Country. In the first season, Josh Duhamel‘s character, Staten, coped with two significant losses while exploring his undeniable bond with childhood friend Quinn (Minka Kelly), who also caught the attention of Staten’s brother-in-law and love triangle antagonist, Davis (Eoin Macken).
Meanwhile, Yancy (Jack Schumacher) hid a past from Ellie (Marianly Tejada). Audiences found themselves invested in a romantic triangle involving high schoolers Lucas (Wareing), Lauren (Lizzy Greene), and Reid (Andrew Liner).
From Outer Banks’ John B and Sarah to Fire Country’s Bodie and Gabriela, some shows heighten the tension with classic cheating plots. Riverdale, which debuted in 2017, focused on iconic characters from the Archie Comics as a group of friends unveiled dark secrets after a mysterious murder.
In the second season, which premiered on Thursday, July 23, Davis (Macken), his son Reid (Liner), and Davis’ ex-wife Paula Jo (Meta Golding) were no longer part of the cast. Their departure was noted after significant roles in the inaugural season of this popular Netflix series.
“Once the pipeline was established, [Austin Water and Power] ceased operations,” Ellie (Tejada) informed Quinn (Kelly). “All funding dried up. Several ranches went under, and many opted to sell.”
Quinn inquired if her ex was among those who left, to which Ellie confirmed he was part of that group. During this time, Davis reestablished his relationship with Paula Jo while their son, Reid, continued his studies at Texas A&M.
