Reese Witherspoon Reunites with Cast of Legally Blonde

Reese Witherspoon marked the 25th anniversary of her beloved film Legally Blonde with a reunion of the original cast, including Jennifer Coolidge and Selma Blair.

The trio from Legally Blonde graced the red carpet at Hall Des Lumieres in New York City on Saturday, June 20, during the Elle World pop-up event, which promoted Amazon Prime Video’s prequel series Elle. The series features newcomer Lexi Minetree as a younger version of Witherspoon’s Elle Woods.

Joining Witherspoon, 50, Blair, 53, and Coolidge, 64, were their fellow Legally Blonde cast members, including Ali Larter, Matthew Davis, and Victor Garber, as well as Elle‘s new stars Minetree, 25, along with Elle Woods’ on-screen parents, June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott.

As the red carpet festivities began, Witherspoon shared a heartfelt moment on her Instagram Story, where she posed alongside Minetree. Witherspoon donned a pink satin midi dress paired with Miss Z pumps, while Minetree opted for a sparkling pink skirt.

“Passing the pink torch and it feels so good,” Witherspoon expressed.

The forthcoming Elle series is set in the time before Woods became a Harvard law student, focusing on her high school years in 1990s Seattle. Witherspoon serves as executive producer for this prequel comedy series, which is set to debut on July 1 on Prime Video.

Witherspoon made the project announcement in May 2024, sharing, “I had this wild idea that the world might want to know the origin story of Elle Woods. So, here I am to officially tell you the most exciting news ever: we’re going back to high school with Elle.”

“Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law School, she was just an average ‘90s high school girl. And thanks to Amazon and Hello Sunshine, all of you will get to know her in this new series on Amazon Prime Video,” she added. “I’m absolutely thrilled.”

Amazon teased the upcoming launch of the Legally Blonde prequel with Saturday’s Elle-World event, billed as “a one-day NYC experience that brings the world of Elle Woods to life through interactive offerings, exclusive merchandise, and unmissable surprises.”

A prequel to Legally Blonde is in development at Prime Video — but what should we know about Elle thus far? Based on Amanda Brown’s novel, the 2001 film Legally Blonde introduced audiences to Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon), a sorority girl who tries to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis) by getting a […]

In the meantime, Blair — who portrayed Elle Woods’ rival Vivian Kensington in the 2001 film — recently shared her experiences with Us Weekly about some of her memorable red carpet outfits during the promotion of the iconic film.

“I remember styling myself— it never even crossed my mind to hire a stylist,” Blair revealed to Us in April. “Back then, I’d just see something I liked, and I’d go buy it, or I’d ask someone in the store to dress me. It was a different era. I found it surprising when people applied makeup for [a] premiere or styled their outfits.”

She continued, “That was the idea of a young girl because I realized a few years later how important makeup is. I had makeup done for that premiere, and I thought, ‘Wow, this is such a big deal.’”
