Rosalynn Carter’s Daughter Shares an Old Love Letter from Jimmy Carter

In a heartfelt address, Amy Carter, the daughter of Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter, shared a 75-year-old love letter her father penned to her mother.

On Thursday, January 9, the former U.S. President was laid to rest at the age of 100.

In a video posted by the current First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, Amy remarked, “My mom spent most of her life in love with my dad,” as images of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in black and white were displayed.

“This is from a letter he wrote 75 years ago,” she said, her eyes brimming with tears.

“My darling, every time I have ever been away from you, I have been overjoyed to return and find just how wonderful you are. While I’m apart from you, I try to convince myself that you are not, and couldn’t possibly be, as sweet and beautiful as I remember.”

“But when I see you,” the letter continues, “I fall in love with you all over again.”

Jill concluded the post with, “Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter had a love story for the ages.”

“We miss them both dearly, but find solace in knowing they are together again. To the entire Carter family, thank you for sharing them with America and the world.”

Commenters echoed Biden’s sentiments.

“If there was ever a better love story, I’ve yet to see it. May President Carter and FLOTUS Carter both rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to the entire Carter family. If heaven truly exists, I envision them young and healthy once more, united and joyful,” wrote a commenter.

Before Rosalynn’s passing in November 2023 at the age of 96, she and Jimmy Carter enjoyed 77 years of marriage.

They were 18 and 21 years old when they exchanged vows, having known each other all their lives.

According to NPR, Jimmy first met Rosalynn when he was just three years old and she was only a day old.

They hold the record as “the longest married couple in presidential history,” per NPR.
