Sabrina Carpenter paid homage to two legendary icons for her inaugural Vogue cover: Marilyn Monroe and Madonna.

The 25-year-old star embraced the past with a series of retro-inspired outfits for the March 2025 edition, which debuted on Tuesday, February 11.

Captured by the iconic Steven Meisel, Carpenter graced the cover in a bespoke blue Dolce & Gabbana corset that evoked memories of her Short n’ Sweet Tour lingerie-style outfits. The design featured a silky bra top, lace-up sides, and a tiny mini skirt, drawing striking similarities to the satin cone-bra bodysuit famously worn by Madonna during her 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour.

For her glam look, hairstylist Guido Palau transformed her platinum blonde hair into voluminous curls worthy of Marilyn, with big-barrel coils and billowy bangs. Her makeup, styled by Pat McGrath, featured a glowing base, well-defined brows, bronze eyeshadow, winged eyeliner, and lined lips.

In other shots from the photoshoot, she looked incredibly stunning in a red Gucci dress with a strappy back and sheer lace detailing. Styled by Ib Kamara, Carpenter complemented the outfit with feathered Paris Texas heels and Tiffany & Co. jewels, elevating her look to that of a modern-day Material Girl.

One of her most Monroe-esque looks was a satin Prada column gown with classic Hollywood charm. To accentuate the style, the Grammy winner donned a LaPointe feathered jacket and a dazzling Graff yellow-diamond necklace, earrings, and ring set.

While speaking with Vogue contributor Abby Agguire, Carpenter shared insights into her off-duty fashion, surprising fans with her contrasting casual style compared to her sultry stage attire and vintage red-carpet looks.

On the red carpet, Carpenter continues to draw inspiration from icons such as Monroe, Madonna, Shirley MacLaine, and more. At the 2024 VMAs, she dazzled in a vintage Bob Mackie gown, a piece that Madonna, now 66, wore at the 1991 Academy Awards. This design, which hugged her figure perfectly, was originally inspired by Monroe, who donned it to premiere the 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Most recently, she took inspiration from MacLaine at the 2025 Grammys, wearing a baby blue backless JW Anderson dress. During the event, she also referenced a 1978 Goldie Hawn performance by tap dancing in a custom Dolce & Gabbana blazer and blue corset. It’s evident that Carpenter will continue looking to icons for sartorial inspiration in the future.
