Singer Michelle Williams Jokes About Confusion with Actress Michelle Williams

The vocalist Michelle Williams is no stranger to sharing her name and often jokes about it.

On Sunday, December 22, the Broadway talent, 45, shared an Instagram Story highlighting a humorous instance where someone mistook her for the actress Michelle Williams.

Currently performing in the musical adaptation of the 1992 film Death Becomes Her on Broadway, the former member of Destiny’s Child posted a photo of the fan mail she received, which included pictures of the wrong Michelle Williams.

“Fan Mail😂🥴,” she captioned the photo, showcasing a letter addressed to Ms. Williams along with two images of The Greatest Showman actress, 44.

In another Instagram story, she remarked, “I found out that when she was on Broadway in Cabaret, she also received mail with my pictures! That brings me joy!😂❤”

This isn’t the first instance where the “Say Yes” singer has addressed fans confusing her with the actress who shares her name.

Following the actress Williams receiving an Emmy in 2019 for her performance as Gwen Verdon in Fosse/Verdon, the singer Williams revealed that she received numerous messages from fans who mixed them up.

“Why is it that when y’all are tagging and congratulating someone, do y’all not see that I’m black?” the singer stated during an Instagram Live session. “When you visit my profile, look for the ‘Michelle Williams,’ I am black. Just to clarify: I am not mixed with anything; I’m pure black.”

In her Emmy acceptance speech, the actress Williams addressed equal pay in the industry, a topic the singer Williams noted resulted in some online backlash against her.

“I am trying to understand why I’m getting backlash in my comments for Michelle Williams’ speech. I thought it was her truth. I thought it was remarkable,” she mentioned. “I believed she was stating facts — I could be mistaken. But, I told a lady on my Instagram just a few minutes ago, ‘I’m sorry that my namesake upset you, but can’t you see that I’m black?’”

The “Lose My Breath” singer emphasized that she fully supported The Fablemans actress’ comments.

“She was stunning. She was brilliant. Honey, she portrayed Gwen Verdon exceptionally. She was fantastic,” she added. “So, let’s get it right and stop bringing me into this.”

The Venom star has previously addressed their name mix-ups as well. In a 2018 interview with Huffpost, the actress noted that Google would show her photo when someone searched “Destiny’s Child five members.”

“It brings me one step closer to Beyoncé, so I’m quite okay with it,” the actress quipped at that time. “Now I’ll have a conversation starter if I ever meet Beyoncé. I can share memories from the old days of Destiny’s Child. So thanks for that, as I’ll certainly be tongue-tied if and when that moment arrives, and now I’ll know exactly what to say.”
