SNL Recap: Marcello Hernandez Mocks White Lotus Incest Scene
Everyone is buzzing about the White Lotus incest storyline, and that includes the cast of Saturday Night Live.
In the episode aired on Saturday, March 29, host Mikey Madison and cast member Marcello Hernandez were part of an “Acting Teacher” skit. Hernandez, 27, portrayed the titular professor, who guided his class through a series of peculiar acting exercises inspired by past commercial and reality TV performances.
“Who’s the expert here? You with zero acting credits or me with three?” Hernandez’s character retorted after a student played by Andrew Dismukes challenged his expertise. “First: Wipeout, [where] I smashed my face on a huge red ball. Second, What Would You Do? With John Quiñones. [I] did not intervene and acted in a racist manner.”
His third fictional credit referenced HBO’s acclaimed anthology series The White Lotus.
“Third: The White Lotus,” Hernandez stated. “I auditioned for the incest scene alongside my actual brother, and I didn’t mind it.”
Dismukes’ character then inquired if it was true that his teacher “didn’t land the role and made out with [his] own brother.”
“David, can I share something that might come off as a bit harsh?” Hernandez joked in return. “I would give anything for you to lose your hair and not be able to fix it.”
While the remainder of the skit proceeded without any further mentions of White Lotus, the show itself has been a hot topic this month. In the March 23 episode of The White Lotus, characters Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola) engaged in an intimate interaction, although their characters are biological siblings. (The actors, however, are not related.)
“When I received the role, I remember discussing it with Patrick Schwarzenegger, and one of his audition scenes involved the moment with Chloe [Charlotte Le Bon] where she says, ‘Your brother jerked you off last night. You don’t remember?’ He responds, ‘No, I totally blacked out,’” Nivola, 21, recounted to Variety in March. “So he shared that with me and I thought, ‘Strange … I wonder what that’s all about.’”
He further added, “Then we both had to sign contracts confirming that we were comfortable with filming nude scenes. After receiving the scripts about a week later, I read through all of them in one go while on a flight to Thailand. We all had to trust each other, and that dynamic worked effectively. In the scene, Patrick and I are brothers alongside this girl who we just met the day before.”
Before their threesome, Saxon and Lochlan had shared a kiss in a preceding scene. Only time will reveal how their relationship evolves throughout the rest of The White Lotus episodes.
