Sydney Sweeney Stands with Victims of Washington Wildfires

Sydney Sweeney is leveraging her celebrity influence to aid victims of the wildfires in Spokane, Washington, amidst widespread evacuation efforts.

“Spokane has always been my home. It’s where I was raised, where my family resides, and where so many significant people and places in my life are,” Sweeney, 28, shared through her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, August 4. At the time of writing, over a dozen fires had ravaged approximately 10,000 acres in Spokane County, forcing nearly 65,000 residents to evacuate.

“The catastrophic fires have impacted countless lives in unimaginable ways,” Sweeney added. “Thousands of families have lost their homes, belongings, and businesses, including members of my own family. This level of devastation is unprecedented in our community.”

CNN reported on Tuesday that this year marks the “worst wildfire season in over 30 years” in Oregon and Washington, with more than 2.6 million acres burned so far.

“Unlike larger cities that often receive significant national attention and resources, Spokane does not have the same visibility,” Sweeney mentioned. “If you’re interested in helping, here are four organizations I’m endorsing that are actively supporting our community during this challenging time.”

The Housemaid star provided information on Innovia Foundation, SpokAnimal, Second Harvest, and Watch Duty.

“I have organized this fundraiser to assist these organizations that are doing crucial work on the ground,” she emphasized. “Every donation, regardless of size, will aid those affected as they embark on the lengthy journey of rebuilding. Thank you for supporting my hometown during this challenging time. Love, Syd.”

She also highlighted a post from Baby2Baby, an organization that provides essential items to children in need.

Sweeney has spoken warmly of her hometown in various interviews. In a Harper’s Bazaar Australia cover story in August 2023, she recounted that her mother’s family has deep roots in the area, and her cousins remain some of her closest friends.

Additionally, she purchased a Spokane home that her great-grandparents once sold, which is located close to her grandmother and cousins’ residences. “To be able to bring back those cherished memories into our family was truly special,” Sweeney shared with the publication.
