Will Estes from Blue Bloods to Appear in Season 2 of Boston Blue
When Boston Blue returns for its second season, fans can expect to see a beloved character: Jamie Reagan!
Will Estes, known for his role on Blue Bloods, is officially making a cameo on the CBS spinoff, as revealed in a recent photo shared by Donnie Wahlberg.
“Welcome (back) to the Family! Jamie Reagan! aka Will Estes! #BostonBlue,” wrote Wahlberg, 56, who portrayed Jamie’s older brother Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods before taking the lead in Boston Blue, on his Instagram Story on Friday, August 7.
In the posted photo, Estes, 47, is seen enjoying a meal alongside Wahlberg at a round table.
Boston Blue features Sonequa Martin-Green, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen, who play Detective Lena Silver, officer Jonah Silver, and Danny’s son Sean Reagan, respectively. They were also spotted smiling for the camera on set.
Behind them, fans can catch glimpses of the camera crew and some extras who appeared to be sharing a meal during the filming.
Confirmed by Us on Friday, Estes will indeed make an appearance in season 2 of the hit drama, marking him as the third Reagan to transition from the flagship series.
Fans last witnessed Estes’ portrayal of Jamie during the Blue Bloods series finale, which aired in December 2024, where Jamie and his wife, Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray), announced their excitement about expecting their first child.
After 14 successful seasons on CBS, Blue Bloods concluded, seemingly bringing an end to the Reagan family tale — at least for the moment.
Throughout the series, viewers became entwined with the lives of NYPD Fran Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his adult children: Detective Danny (Wahlberg), Assistant District Attorney Erin (Bridget Moynahan), and NYPD officer Jamie (Estes), as they navigated their lives as first responders and a close-knit family.
The cast also included Frank’s father, former police commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), along with his three grandchildren.
Fortunately for fans, CBS quickly greenlit Boston Blue after the original show’s finale. This time, the storyline follows Danny as he relocates to Boston to support his son Sean — a newly graduated BPD officer — after he gets injured while attempting to save someone.
Throughout the first season, Danny navigated life in Boston, quickly becoming involved in detective work before making the decision to leave his NYPD badge behind for a more permanent life in the city.
While his family remains in New York, viewers were treated to several Reagan crossovers, including appearances from Erin (Moynahan) and Grandpa Henry (Cariou).
Danny’s nephew Joe Hill (Will Hochman) and his former partner and girlfriend, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), also made appearances during season 1 before putting their relationship on hold.
Even though Jamie was absent in season 1, his storyline and his and Eddie’s child were mentioned. During the season finale in May, Danny shared the news that Jamie had welcomed a son named Joseph, in honor of their late brother.
Before Estes’ return was confirmed, executive producer Brandon Margolis told Us exclusively that they hope all the Reagans will make appearances in the spinoff as time goes on.
“It enriches our lives to continue their stories,” Margolis stated in May. “We would love to extend that invitation to both new Reagans and those who joined us last year to come back.”
Season 2 of Boston Blue is set to premiere on CBS on Friday, October 9, at 10 p.m. ET.
