Dehydration is a major skincare issue during the summer, so Us Weekly consulted with NYC-based aesthetician Jess Bowers to uncover the best strategies for achieving super-moisturized, radiant skin.
The celebrity facialist, who works with clients globally from her private skin speakeasy in the West Village, advocates for a ‘less is more’ approach when it comes to skincare, a mantra she embraced during her frequent visits to France.
“Clients often ask how to keep their skin plump and hydrated during hot weather,” she notes. Her consistent reply is, “Fewer products and a dedicated routine.”
Bowers also highlights common beauty blunders that can lead to dryness—it’s not just about too much sun exposure.
“Many people skip using a gentle exfoliator to clear away sweat and SPF residue,” she says, adding that a common mistake is applying facial oil solo. “It can draw moisture from the skin, making it dehydrated,” she explains. “Always use a facial moisturizer first, then apply a drop of oil on top—or blend it into your moisturizer.”
For her top oil choices, Goop Beauty’s All-in-One Super Nutrient Face Oil is her luxurious go-to that she regularly includes in treatments for an extra boost of hydration. For a more budget-friendly option, she suggests adding a small amount of jojoba oil or glycerin oil. “It’s like putting your moisturizer into overdrive,” she quips.
