Everything You Need to Know About the Outlander Prequel Series, Blood of My Blood

Starz is set to explore deeper into the past with the forthcoming prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood.

Production officially commenced in Scotland in February 2024 for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will feature 10 episodes. The series will delve into the intertwined love stories of both Jamie and Claire Fraser’s parents.

Starz’s Outlander, adapted from the historical fantasy novels by Diana Gabaldon, stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire, respectively. The 16-episode inaugural season of Outlander debuted on Starz in 2014. Drawn from Gabaldon’s 1991 novel of the same name, Outlander follows World War II nurse Claire Randall as she is swept back in time to 18th-century Scotland, where she falls for Highlander Jamie Fraser.

In 2022, Gabaldon hinted on her blog that a prequel novel featuring Jamie Fraser’s parents was in the works, provisionally titled “A Bird in the Hand.” This novel is set to be released following the final, 10th book in the Outlander series. Additionally, she revealed that Sony and Starz had already greenlit a prequel series. Blood of My Blood received official approval in January 2023.
