Scott Porter Discusses His Hart of Dixie Residuals

In a recent discussion about the success of his previous shows, Scott Porter disclosed whether he has received residuals for his role in The CW’s Hart of Dixie.

“No, we don’t,” Porter, 46, confirmed during an interview on Sunday, August 10, with YouTuber Joe Vulpis. “Interestingly, Hart of Dixie had a significant international audience through Netflix, which Friday Night Lights never really achieved.”

Although it gained new viewers on Netflix, Hart of Dixie did not reach a vast audience.

“At its peak, Hart of Dixie had around 1.3 million viewers total. People discover the show now and rewatch it like they do with Friends. It’s just so accessible,” Porter elaborated. “I’m genuinely proud to have been part of it. While streaming expanded its audience, I’m not sure many viewers are finding it for the first time.”

Hart of Dixie charmed audiences with its romantic entanglements, warm friendships, and Southern flair. Rachel Bilson led the cast from September 2011 to March 2015 as the endearing New York doctor Zoe Hart, who relocates to Alabama. Co-stars Wilson Bethel (Wade Kinsella) and Scott Porter (George Tucker) portrayed her romantic interests, while Cress […]

He continued: “Whereas Friday Night Lights resonates across generations, Hart of Dixie feels like a captured moment in time. Meanwhile, Ginny & Georgia is an undeniable hit, racking up billions of minutes viewed — I’ve never been involved in something so colossal.”

Before landing the part of Paul on Ginny & Georgia, Porter gained fame through Friday Night Lights. He also won our hearts playing the beloved small-town lawyer George Tucker on Hart of Dixie. The series, which ran from 2011 to 2015, featured George caught in a love triangle with Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and Lemon (Jaime King), while Zoe also had a relationship with Wade (Wilson Bethel).

“George was quite the character — especially in his romantic life,” Porter joked exclusively to Us Weekly in June. “He was all over the place, unsure of what he wanted. One minute he loved Zoe, and the next he was into [Wade’s ex-wife] Tansy. There’s nothing wrong with that; he was just figuring himself out. If Paul and George ever met, it would be chaos.”

Porter also responded to Us‘s notion of Bilson, 43, playing a new love interest for his character in the Netflix hit, stating, “Paul is in such a chaotic place right now; he can’t even entertain the idea of a relationship due to all the turmoil he’s been through.”

ABC/Gilles Mingasson The issue of residual payments has gained traction. But where do these payments originate, and how much do actors really earn? “Producers and distributors are responsible for the residual payments,” a spokesperson for SAG-AFTRA noted in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “Our signatory producers handle residuals for their productions […]

He added: “Paul’s current situation is so overwhelming, I doubt he has the time or mental space to pursue a new relationship.”

After Porter expressed enthusiasm for having his Hart of Dixie co-stars cameo on Ginny & Georgia, Bethel, 41, indicated his willingness.

“If they want to be involved, I’m all for it. I love Scott, so count me in for working with him again. He’s fantastic, and I’m thrilled for him and everything happening in his career and life,” Bethel joked to Us in July, suggesting that if “the world needs another” fictional love triangle with him and Porter, “count me in.”

However, Porter preferred to avoid romance, realizing the show doesn’t “need more handsome guys.”

“I’m already up against [Nathan Mitchell’s] Zion and [Raymond Ablack’s] Joe,” Porter jested to Us. “But I’ve been lucky to work with such incredibly talented actors and amazing people. I still keep in touch with Rachel and Wilson; Willie and I still talk a lot to this day.”
