Bridgerton Star Speaks Out on Potential Return Amid Recasting Worries
Some Bridgerton enthusiasts have expressed concerns regarding potential recasts, and now a former cast member is speaking out about the possibilities of returning to the series.
Calam Lynch, who portrayed Theo in season 2, was inquired whether he had been approached to return. He told Swooon on Wednesday, July 15, “I mean, I don’t know. I loved doing the show, I really did.”
Lynch, 31, did not dismiss the possibility of Theo returning for Eloise’s season.
“I’ve always believed that people like Jess Brownell, who oversees the show, and Chris Van Dusen prior to her, know what’s best for those characters,” he added. “And there’s a beauty in it being what it was.”
While Lynch mentioned he hasn’t heard anything definitive, he speculated on how Theo could return, stating, “If it was truly intentional and executed in a subtle, intriguing manner, then of course. I adore Claudia Jessie; she’s fantastic, and I relish working with her along with the entire cast, but I dunno, it was a long time ago …”
Eloise’s near-romance with Theo concluded abruptly without further exploration. Her relationship with Phillip (Chris Fulton) is anticipated to inspire season 5, rooted in Julia Quinn‘s To Sir Phillip, With Love novel.
“I don’t necessarily know how they’re going to spin it, write it, or what they’ll keep and change,” Quinn exclusively stated to Us Weekly in February. “I love her story.”
She further commented, “He has two kids that she has to manage, which is awesome. The fact that Eloise is going to have an instant family is incredible. His twins are quite formidable to her, so I hope they maintain elements like that.”
When questioned about whether Fulton — featured in seasons 1 and 2 — would reprise his role or if a new actor might be introduced, Quinn acknowledged her uncertainty given the alterations made in other adaptations.
Quinn also discussed the potential for younger siblings Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Will Tilston) to be portrayed by different actors by the time it’s their turn for their own seasons.
“It’s amusing because they were around 12 and 13 when they started. When asked back then about the same actors playing them as adults, I’d have said, ‘I don’t know.’ But upon seeing them again at the premiere, they were both drinking wine,” Quinn shared with Us. “They’re both 18 now, and Will was there with his girlfriend.”
The author highlighted that there are still a few years before It’s In His Kiss and On the Way to the Wedding will have their own seasons featured.
“Jess [Brownell] has indicated that the next two seasons will be either Eloise and then Francesca or Francesca and then Eloise, which makes sense. It takes a few years to film, so by the time we reach Hyacinth and Gregory, the actors will likely be in their 20s,” Quinn elaborated. “So, I think it’ll probably be fine. Will it feel odd that we’ve known them since they were 12? We see child stars grow up all the time.”
Quinn expressed that there’s much for fans to anticipate, adding, “As a writer, crafting those two books was challenging at first. I had to allow them to grow up in my mind a bit, and that was tough for both of them. I was relieved it took several years — but even so — I can’t recall how much time elapsed in the writing. I really needed to let them mature. It was difficult.”
