Where Are the Spice Girls Members Now? Updates on the Iconic Girl Band Singers
Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Mel B (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) came together to form the Spice Girls in 1994, becoming one of the most cherished music groups of all time.
The group was initially named Touch but changed to Spice after co-writing the song “Sugar and Spice.” Eventually, they settled on the name Spice Girls after realizing that another artist had already claimed the name Spice.
The British girl group launched their first single, “Wannabe,” in July 1996. As their fame soared, they released their debut album, Spice, in November of that year. The Spice Girls — adopting their iconic nicknames from Top of the Pops magazine — followed up with a string of hits such as “Spice Up Your Life,” “Who Do You Think You Are,” and “Stop.”
In May 1998, Halliwell announced her decision to leave the group. As the members pursued solo endeavors and personal commitments, the Spice Girls entered an indefinite hiatus in December 2000. Seven years later, all five reunited for a worldwide tour, performing a medley of their greatest hits at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in August 2012.
