Helen Mirren Backs Tom Hardy in ‘MobLand’ Controversy

Helen Mirren is standing by Tom Hardy amid speculation that he was let go from their series MobLand.

In a recent interview with Variety that was released on Thursday, June 11, the 80-year-old Mirren was asked if she would continue her collaboration with 48-year-old Hardy after the unfolding drama.

“Absolutely. In a f***ing heartbeat,” the Oscar-winning actress replied enthusiastically.

Mirren went on to commend the Inception star for his exceptional acting abilities, asserting her support for artists who have their own unique methods to deliver outstanding performances.

“I love Tom, I believe he’s an extraordinary actor,” she expressed to the publication. “Actors have various processes. Over the years, I’ve come to understand that some reach their goals more quickly. As long as what appears on screen is fantastic, I’m perfectly fine with how someone achieves it. Tom is a very extraordinary individual. I find him absolutely remarkable. My endorsement of him is sincere and heartfelt.”

Last month, Hardy was the subject of headlines when multiple sources claimed he had been dismissed from the Paramount+ series due to his behavior. (MobLand season 3 has yet to be officially announced; season 2 is expected to air later this year.)

According to a report by Puck in May, Hardy was purportedly let go from MobLand after the conclusion of filming for season 2. The outlet claimed that Hardy was frequently late to the set, requested script notes, and tried to modify dialogues.

A source also informed The Hollywood Reporter that month that Hardy “refused to leave his trailer for hours.”

However, Variety countered that Hardy “was not fired.” A source affiliated with the production noted that “the door is not closed for season 3, and creative matters are being worked out.”

Paramount+ has seen considerable success with shows featuring antiheroes operating outside the law. This trend continues this month with the launch of MobLand, a new crime series led by Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. Harry Da Souza (Hardy) finds himself embroiled in a mob conflict between two rival factions in London.

Neither Hardy nor Paramount has commented on the allegations. Us previously reached out to representatives for Hardy, Paramount+, and MobLand producer 101 Studios for their insights.

In response to the reports, Mirren seemed to hint at the situation through an Instagram Story posted on May 28. Accompanied by a photo of Hardy, she wrote, “Love you now and always, Helen.”

In MobLand, Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family in London. Alongside him, Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Anson Boon portray various members of the Harrigan family. Notably, filmmaker Guy Ritchie serves as the executive producer and director of the series, with Hardy also taking on the role of executive producer.
