Who Is Jessica Sanchez? Introducing the Winner of America’s Got Talent Season 20

Jessica Sanchez is an America’s Got Talent champion, a victory nearly two decades in the making.

Two decades after her initial appearance on NBC’s competition series, the talented singer was declared the winner of season 20.

“Reflecting on my life, I began this journey at just 10 years old on AGT, and here I am, 20 years later. Those years have been filled with numerous highs and some very challenging lows,” Sanchez, 30, shared exclusively with Us Weekly following the semifinals on September 16. “It’s been a tough road, but I kept believing in myself and persevering. Today, I feel more blessed than ever. You must always keep the faith.”

From her audition in season 20, where she delivered a stunning version of Benson Boone’s hit single “Beautiful Things,” Sanchez captivated judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, and Howie Mandel.

Sofía Vergara was such a fan that she used her Golden Buzzer to ensure Sanchez progressed far in the competition.

After garnering the most votes on finale night, Sanchez walks away with $1 million and the chance to fulfill her musical aspirations.

“There are countless incredible artists out there,” she told Us when asked about her future collaborations. “We’ll see what opportunities come my way.”

Sanchez was uncertain whether she would welcome her baby girl before finale week.

“Honestly, it could happen,” she mentioned to Us after the semifinals regarding the possibility of becoming a mom during the competition. “The baby will decide when she’s ready, but I’m in the final month.”

When not preparing for the show, Sanchez participated in a maternity photoshoot, reflecting on her pregnancy experience.

“I never imagined I’d spend my final weeks of pregnancy away from home amidst such an exhilarating competition,” she shared via Instagram on September 14. “I truly believe God has a greater plan for me. This unexpected journey has been so beautiful, and I wouldn’t change a thing 💕.”

In 2012, Sanchez participated in season 11 of American Idol, judged by Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson.

Though she finished as a runner-up behind winner Phillip Phillips, she cherished her time on the show.

“I believe Phillip truly deserved to win, and I’m so proud of him,” she remarked to reporters following the finale. “I have no regrets. Making it to the top two is remarkable, so I am thankful and content.”

In a conversation with TV Insider, Sanchez expressed her admiration for her husband, who has always been her rock throughout her music career.

“My husband is my greatest support, along with my faith,” she said in September. “I believe God has something wonderful in store for me that I can’t even envision.”

In July, Gallardo shared his thoughts on his wife’s pregnancy in an Instagram post, stating, “Seeing you carry our child while dedicating your heart to every performance leaves me in awe. You’re not just strong… you’re divine. I’ve never been prouder or more grateful to share life with you. This season of our lives… it’s the most beautiful one yet. I love you.”

During the first season of America’s Got Talent, Sanchez auditioned when she was just 10 years old.

Although she didn’t reach the semifinals, Sanchez remained committed to her musical aspirations.

“This big dream of mine took root 20 years ago. I really wanted to take another shot at it,” Sanchez expressed in a video that aired during the season 20 finale. “I wish I could speak to my 10-year-old self and say, ‘Look where we are today, girl.’”

Jessica Sanchez Made a Guest Appearance on ‘Glee’

In 2013, Sanchez had the chance to guest star on the Fox musical series.

“I haven’t had much time to watch Glee lately, but I’ve been catching up and taking acting lessons,” Sanchez told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2012 ahead of her debut. “I’ve enjoyed the show in the past; it’s an incredible production.”
