Rosamund Pike Looks Back on Her Pregnancy Post-Gone Girl Success
Rosamund Pike reflects on her choice to get pregnant right after her success with Gone Girl.
“I’m not very strategic about my career, ensuring I’m in the right spots and meeting the right people,” the 47-year-old actress disclosed in an interview with The Sunday Times published on Saturday, March 14. “I made Gone Girl, got pregnant, and wasn’t around for all the networking and excitement. I could have approached it much more strategically.”
She added, “I was at a juncture where I could have landed numerous jobs but opted out of the industry for 18 months, which was a bit crazy.”
Pike starred in the 2014 psychological thriller, directed by David Fincher, alongside Ben Affleck, Neil Patrick Harris, Carrie Coon, and Emily Ratajkowski. The film grossed over $369 million worldwide on a $61 million budget, marking it as one of Fincher’s most successful projects.
The actress welcomed her two sons, Solo and Atom, in 2012 and 2014, respectively. She shares her children with her long-term partner Robie Uniacke, a businessman she has been with since 2009. (Uniacke, 65, has four children from prior relationships.)
“I’ve got my kids homeschooling me,” she mentioned during a 2021 chat on The Graham Norton Show, noting that her partner learned Mandarin to ensure their sons grow up bilingual.
“[Uniacke’s] essentially communicating with them in a language I don’t understand,” she continued. “So I figured the [Covid-19] lockdown was a perfect chance for me to catch up.”
In a 2015 appearance on the now-defunct The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Pike shared her experiences as a mother of two, admitting that she brought her youngest to business meetings while managing her professional and parental duties.
“I just take him along with me,” she said regarding her son Atom. “It has a rather fascinating effect on people because they don’t expect it. I show up at meetings because, well, you’re a mom and your baby needs to eat.”
“This is where I start to feel uneasy during the interview,” she added quickly. “Yes, it’s a very unsettling feeling. I begin to feel somewhat ashamed.”
