Discover Justin Trudeau’s Family: Introducing His Three Children
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is a devoted father of three.
“There’s no doubt that I put in a lot of effort. I travel across the country and occasionally around the world,” Trudeau shared with Vox during a 2016 interview. “Being able to return home to see them almost every night when I’m in Ottawa is wonderful. Taking them along on trips whenever possible is also very significant. My father did that; he took us everywhere … we got to explore the world and had valuable time with him.”
He went on, “I often remind myself, ‘I’m in politics not in spite of having kids, but because I have kids.’ They keep me grounded in assessing whether I’m engaging in meaningful work or simply going through the motions.”
Trudeau was wed to Sophie Grégoire Trudeau from 2005 until 2023, during which they welcomed three children. The couple announced their separation in August 2023.
“Sophie and I would like to share that after many significant and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate,” Trudeau announced on Instagram at the time. “As always, we are a close family with deep love and respect for one another and for everything we have built and will continue to build.”
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office stated that Trudeau and Grégoire Trudeau were “dedicated to raising their children in a secure, loving, and cooperative environment.”
Almost two years later, Trudeau started dating pop star Katy Perry with the full approval of his kids.
“She’s really nice. She’s down-to-earth. She’s amazing,” Trudeau’s son Xavier shared on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast in April 2026. “I think my dad’s happy, and that’s what matters.”

Xavier ‘Xav’ Trudeau
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau welcomed their eldest son, Xavier, in October 2007.
Xavier is an aspiring musician who released his debut EP, When Does It End, in July 2025. He often seeks music guidance from his dad’s girlfriend, Katy Perry.
“When I’m really thrilled with a track, [I] send it [to her],” Xavier remarked on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast in April 2026. “She’s always ready to offer feedback or suggest changes.”
Concerning his personal life, Xavier is in a relationship with model and influencer Pariya Carello since November 2025.
Ella-Grace Trudeau
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau added to their family with the arrival of daughter Ella-Grace in February 2009.
“Happy birthday, Ella!” Trudeau posted on Instagram in February 2024, celebrating Ella-Grace’s 15th birthday. “You may be much taller now, but you’ll always be my little girl… and I will forever be so, so proud of you. Je t’aime.”
Hadrian Trudeau
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s youngest child, son Hadrian, was born in February 2014.
In a 2024 social media post, Trudeau remarked that Hadrian is “fun, fearless, and adventurous.”
