Euphoria Cast: Discover the Stars of HBO’s Show Then and Now
Euphoria fans have witnessed cast changes both on and off screen since the series first launched.
Inspired by the Israeli series of the same name, Euphoria follows the struggles of troubled high school student Rue (Zendaya) as she seeks to stay sober after rehab. The show delves into themes such as mental health issues, toxic relationships, sexuality, and more. After its 2019 debut, the show’s ensemble cast—including Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, and Colman Domingo—quickly rose to fame.
The HBO series was swiftly renewed for a second season, but it took nearly three years for the episodes to be released. In the interim, the network commissioned two individual specials that address the aftermath of Rue and Jules’ (Schafer) breakup.
The third season of Euphoria was initially slated to premiere on HBO in 2025, but faced multiple delays, including creator Sam Levinson’s obligations to his short-lived series The Idol. The postponement was further prolonged due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that occurred in late 2023.
“We’ve experienced strikes in the past, and they do increase costs,” stated HBO CEO Casey Bloys in November 2023 regarding production expenses. “I don’t foresee a situation where I decide, ‘Well, I was going to create another major show, but now I won’t because we have to spend X amount more.’ I don’t think it operates that way.”
