Handmaid’s Tale Cast: A Look at the Hulu Stars Then and Now
The Handmaid’s Tale enthusiasts have witnessed cast changes both on and off screen since the show’s inception.
This popular Hulu series, which debuted in 2017, is adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, set in a dystopian future. Following a second American Civil War, low fertility rates led to women being assigned to men for childbearing.
Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella, and Samira Wiley have been part of the cast since the show’s launch. Over the years, it garnered critical acclaim, becoming the first Hulu-produced show to win a major award and the first streaming series to take home an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.
Hulu announced that the sixth season, set for release in 2025, will be the series’ final installment. Prior to production, The Handmaid’s Tale experienced a transition when showrunner Bruce Miller stepped down after his long tenure. He will continue as a writer and executive producer, but his responsibilities have been handed over to executive producers Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang, as he shifts focus to the spinoff series The Testaments.
