Chet Hanks of Running Point Discusses Potential Family Cameos
Chet Hanks delivers a standout performance in Netflix’s Running Point — but will his renowned family make guest appearances?
At the premiere event for season 2 on Wednesday, April 15, Chet, 35, concurred with Us Weekly when they proposed that his parents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, or his brother Colin Hanks, could show up on the series.
Since its debut in 2025, the actor has taken on the role of Travis Bugg. Running Point, which premieres on April 23, stars Kate Hudson as a transformed party girl given the opportunity to prove her worth when she is tasked with managing her family’s professional basketball team.
“[Kate’s family] is just five minutes from my parents. Kate would host these fantastic parties where she gathered a lot of people to play games, especially Mafia,” Chet shared with Bustle in March 2025. “It really helps when you already have a good connection with someone.”
During that discussion, Chet expressed his astonishment that the show’s creators, including Mindy Kaling, hadn’t initially envisioned him for the role of Travis, despite the character’s resemblance to him.
“The character description said: Travis is the white point guard. He’s heavily tattooed. He aspires to be a rapper but is a significant risk due to the controversial stuff he shares on social media,” Chet remembered. “I thought, ‘If I don’t land this role, I should probably quit.’”

He further remarked: “My dad’s an actor. My older brother’s an actor. My mom as well. This is what my family does for a living. So I always knew that it was a path I would take eventually.”
Along with the possibility of Chet’s family appearing in future seasons, executive producer David Stassen suggested that there have been talks about Kurt Russell playing Hudson’s late character’s father.
“That’s an excellent idea, and it’s been discussed,” he shared with Us. “If we ever bring him in, we couldn’t ask for anyone better than Kurt Russell.”
Fellow EP Jeanie Buss expressed her excitement for the idea, stating, “Oh, that would be amazing! Are you serious? What a great suggestion! I completely support this.”
Scott MacArthur, who plays Ness, jokingly mentioned that he “always felt” Russell, 75, was like his dad, making the concept even more fitting.
“So I’m fully on board,” she added, while Fabrizio Guido, who plays Jackie, a new addition to the Gordon family, expressed his eagerness to work alongside Russell.
“I hadn’t even considered that! Wow!” he exclaimed, while season 2 guest star Ken Marino chimed in during his own interview with Us, saying, “That would be fantastic! Absolutely perfect. Let’s make it happen!”
Running Point premieres on April 23 on Netflix.
