Who Is Hunter Davenport from Off Campus? Unraveling the Mystery After the Twist

The debut season of Off Campus concluded with a surprising turn of events when Hunter Davenport made his entrance—who is this enigmatic character?

Fans of Elle Kennedy’s novel series are already acquainted with Hunter, portrayed by Charlie Evans in the series. In Season 1, Allie (Mika Abdalla) develops a bond with the mysterious man, eventually engaging in a casual relationship that complicates her situation with Dean (Stephen Kalyn).

The season finale featured a confrontation between Dean and Hunter, leaving viewers with lingering questions. Hints suggested that Dean’s tensions could be tied to his sister, Summer, who dated Hunter in the past.

In the books, however, Hunter was Dean’s teammate in The Score, and their relationship was amicable. He later became the protagonist of his own story in The Play, while Summer had a significant role in The Chase.

Prime Video’s Off Campus navigates various love stories at Briar U — but which couples make it in the books? Adapted from Elle Kennedy’s series, the show follows an elite ice hockey team and the women they love as they “grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery […]”

“[Hunter’s arrival is] a launching point to hopefully explore some of Dean’s backstory in season 2,” creator Louisa Levy shared with Swooon in May. “It really was an opportunity to add a twist to their storyline and extend it, giving us plenty of scope to explore their arcs in future seasons.”

She added: “We also wanted to signal to the book fans that there might be unexpected characters appearing in interesting ways.”

Based on the Off Campus series, the show debuted on May 13 and follows an elite ice hockey team alongside their partners as they navigate love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, creating deep friendships and lasting connections through the challenges of entering adulthood,” according to the official synopsis.

Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett’s (Belmont Cameli) love story was a focal point in season 1, with several pivotal moments from their book, The Deal, reimagined for the screen. Simultaneously, the show set up Allie and Dean as potential central characters, despite them appearing in the series’ third book.

“Ever since the cast announcement, theories have been swirling online, and it’s been fascinating to see,” Abdalla told Us Weekly regarding Allie and Dean’s connection. “I truly believe people will be surprised.”

She added: “Even though we tease Dean and Allie earlier than expected, viewers will still crave more. I relate to that anticipation as a viewer myself.”

To advance Allie and Dean’s narrative, the show incorporated Hunter despite his nonexistence in Allie’s story arc in the books.

“It was crucial to have that scene to decelerate the dynamics between Allie and Dean. I want to see them develop individually,” Abdalla hinted. “Allie just exited a long-term relationship, so she can’t revert to her old patterns. I appreciate the addition of Hunter’s storyline; they each need personal growth. I want to see Allie and Dean evolve separately in season 2.”

Off Campus is now available for streaming on Prime Video.
