9-1-1 Cast Discusses What’s Next for Their Characters in Season 10

The cast of 9-1-1 is sharing their aspirations for their characters as they approach the tenth season of their popular ABC series.

“Given how season 9 wrapped up for me, I think [Buck] has taken on a significant amount of new responsibility, and it will be interesting to see how he manages that along with his work,” Oliver Stark, who portrays Evan “Buck” Buckley, told Us Weekly exclusively during the Disney Upfronts 2026 red carpet event earlier this week.

Stark’s character has evolved considerably since the pilot, recently embarking on a surprising new journey in the season 9 finale when he signed documents to become the guardian of 4-year-old Theo. (Theo’s parents were Buck’s friends who died in a car accident; Buck had previously agreed to be their sperm donor.)

Ryan Guzman, on the other hand, confessed he is “clueless” about his character, Eddie Diaz’s future, but does have some ideas on his wishlist. “If I could choose, I would love to see Eddie revisit his army days in some capacity, or perhaps find a love interest,” he remarked.

Oliver Stark initially had reservations about his character Evan “Buck” Buckley’s significant twist in the season 9 finale. **Spoiler Alert**: In the final scenes of the episode titled “Hearts and Flowers,” it is revealed that Buck has signed paperwork to become the legal guardian of 4-year-old […].

The possibility of a “love interest” for Eddie could be contentious, as many fans have been rooting for him to pursue a relationship with Buck after years of friendship. Guzman acknowledged that a romance between Buck and Eddie would certainly “make a lot of people happy.”

However, the actors have no control over the direction of the story. “We clearly don’t write the show; we just perform the scenes as they come to us,” Stark mentioned to Us, emphasizing how “meaningful” the audience’s “reaction” to the “Buddie” relationship has been for both he and Guzman. “We appreciate how invested the audience is in that relationship, regardless of how you perceive it. We play it as authentically and truthfully as we can.”

As for Aisha Hinds, whose character, Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, finished season 9 on a positive note after overcoming dermatomyositis, she remarked that anything could happen on 9-1-1.

“I couldn’t tell you where [Hen is] headed,” she laughed. “I mean, she went to space, lost all senses, and somehow came back. Where do we go from here? I have no idea!”

Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman are keenly aware that 9-1-1 fans are eager for their characters, Buck and Eddie, to become an item—and they’ve discussed whether such a romance could be on the horizon multiple times. “I’m open to it. There’s definitely some chemistry between us,” Stark indicated.

She is looking forward to contributing her experience as a mother of two to Buck as he adjusts to life with Theo (played by twins Lincoln and Teddy Sykes). Hen shares her son Denny (Declan Pratt) and daughter Mara (Askyler Bell) with her on-screen wife, Karen (Tracie Thoms).

“I get to be an auntie to Theo, you know?” she remarked. “I’m excited to see Big Buck and Little Buck go head-to-head. That should be fun.”

All nine seasons of 9-1-1 are available for streaming on Hulu.
