Emma Roberts’ Son ‘Thrilled’ to Accompany Her Down the Wedding Aisle
Emma Roberts’ 5-year-old son, Rhodes, took his role at his mother’s summer wedding to heart.
“It was absolutely magical, and my son walked me down the aisle,” Roberts, 35, shared excitedly on the Tuesday, September 15, episode of the “Sibling Revelry” podcast. “That was just the cutest and sweetest thing. He was so thrilled.”
Roberts wed her now-husband, Cody John, in July during a small ceremony held at his family’s ranch in Sun Valley, Idaho.
“I’ve never felt more content, settled, or happier,” Roberts, who co-parents Rhodes with ex Garrett Hedlund, proclaimed on Tuesday. “[The wedding] was simply incredible. It took place in the backyard of his family’s home. We erected a tent and had the time of our lives. … It truly was one of the best nights of my life.”
Alongside Rhodes, the newly married couple invited 200 of their notable friends and family members to celebrate the special day.
“We wanted to have a large gathering to celebrate, and our parents were also eager to invite people. I didn’t want to be that bride who was too rigid about the guest list,” she reminisced. “Although we couldn’t invite everyone, we didn’t want to be overly strict.”
Emma’s mother, Kelly Cunningham, and her aunt Julia Roberts, were both there, while the American Horror Story star’s father, Eric Roberts, was notably missing. (Emma and Eric, 70, have a strained relationship.)
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” Eric shared with Us in a July statement about his absence from the ceremony. “It’s perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she chooses, with whomever she wants.”
While Emma has never publicly commented on her father’s absence or their rumored estrangement, she once expressed to Vogue that her big day felt “like it was out of a book.”
“I feel like I’m always in a rush,” Emma revealed to the magazine. “All my friends are in a rush. My family, we’re all rushing, so to feel like people really put down their phones, were present, and that everyone I love gathered in one place, I can’t even articulate that feeling. I couldn’t have imagined it any better.”
For her wedding day, Emma wore a custom bridal gown designed by Monique Lhuillier.
“The vibe was vintage, with lace [and] form-fitting. I mentioned wanting to look like a haunted doll,” she joked during the podcast episode. “Some thought that was strange, but that was my aesthetic. Ombré, it was tea-dipped. I aimed to look like a ghost, which others found odd too. But I adored it, and I have no regrets.”
