Caleb Shomo’s Wife Speaks Out Following His Revelation About Being Gay
Beartooth’s lead vocalist, Caleb Shomo, has received a heartfelt response from his wife, Fleur Shomo, following his declaration as a “proudly gay man.”
“I’m not quite sure how to begin—does anything even need to be said? But I suppose I’ll just get right to it,” Fleur shared on Instagram on Saturday, May 23. “The past few months have been incredibly disorienting and painful for both of us. However, my love, protection, and support for Caleb will never waver. Over the years, his well-being has always been my utmost priority.”
She added, “Witnessing his confusion and pain, the emotional rollercoaster he experienced, and feeling helpless to intervene—it’s a struggle no one wants for their partner. You find yourself questioning whether you’re a bad person for contemplating how this impacts your life and grappling with the anger that arises. I alone bear the weight of this duality, attempting to support him while facing my own losses has been extraordinarily challenging. You can be there for your loved one during their toughest times while simultaneously feeling completely shattered and losing sight of yourself.”
On the same day, Caleb, who has led the alternative metalcore band since 2012 after parting ways with the crabcore group Attack Attack!, publicly came out as gay amidst online speculation from fans regarding his sexuality.
“There’s been a lot of curiosity about my personal life lately, and I feel compelled to clarify before it impacts those I care about any further. I am a proudly gay man,” he shared on Instagram. “This is something I’ve been uncovering and contemplating for quite some time. Navigating the emotions tied to this realization has been a challenge.”
Caleb further stated, “In terms of my music and Beartooth, I have always aimed to express the deepest parts of my soul through each album. As anyone who’s followed the band knows, the earlier records reflect a struggle with my religious upbringing, depression, and self-hatred. Though I’m thankful for those albums, I often feel embarrassed that I didn’t allow myself to truly face those roots sooner.”
This announcement was Caleb’s first post after he deleted his Instagram account in March, following the release of the band’s new single “Free” from their forthcoming album Pure Ecstasy. Along with the release, he introduced a new look that incited a homophobic comment from Atilla frontman Chris Fronzak, who later issued an apology.
In her public message following Caleb’s disclosure, Fleur reflected on their 14 years of marriage, encouraging fans to continue supporting her husband. Her message came with a video showcasing them dancing together in their living room.
“Our nearly 14 years of marriage were incredible, filled with joy, adventure, and love. No one understands our relationship like we do. And truly, no one can fathom the depth of love between two people except for them,” she continued. “I already miss it and my husband more than anything. Our journey was a beautiful one, and now it’s concluded.”
She also expressed, “I wish anyone facing similar circumstances hope and bravery. I also hope the fans can continue to stand by Caleb. For now, I’ll focus on what I can control and continue to pursue my own goals. If I can greet as many dogs as possible in the process, I believe things will gradually improve, day by day, piece by piece, bird by bird.”
