Off-Campus Author Elle Kennedy Shares Her Favorite Book Transformation

Off Campus author Elle Kennedy has shared her favorite change from the show so far.

Kennedy took to TikTok on Saturday, May 23, to respond to a question that asked, “Which change in the TV show has been your favorite and why?”

In her reply, Kennedy expressed her excitement about Justin being portrayed as a musician instead of an athlete.

“I think it makes a lot of sense,” she said. “I loved Allie and Dean’s JLo/maverick dance and the palpable tension between them even before their hookup (in the book, the hookup happens straight away).”

The show, based on Kennedy’s Off Campus book series, centers around an elite ice hockey team and the women connected to them. Season 1 concentrated on Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett (Belmont Cameli), but although Logan’s (Antonio Cipriano) story is next in the books, Dean (Stephen Kalyn) may take precedence, followed by Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks).

“I hope that fans of the books approach it with an open mind. The fan community for this series is generally positive; they adore these characters and this world,” Kennedy shared with Us Weekly regarding the changes. “After my book tour, every stop was filled with excitement.”

Kennedy expressed optimism about the audience’s reception.

“I truly believe they will love it,” she remarked. “I hope they understand that adaptations require some changes, but they will still capture the essence they experienced from the book.”

Alongside Bright, Cameli, Cipriano, Brooks, and Kalyn, the show also features characters portrayed by Mika Abdalla and Josh Heuston.

“I wasn’t involved day-to-day, such as in the writers’ room or in casting decisions,” Kennedy stated to Us. “However, I had the opportunity to read scripts as they were developed and provide feedback, occasionally joining Zoom calls with the showrunners who appreciated my input as the author.”

The Off Campus cast, much like their on-screen characters, have thrived in their personal dating lives. The show, based on Elle Kennedy’s book series, premiered in May 2026 and explores an elite ice hockey team and the women in their lives as they navigate love and heartbreak.

She went on to say: “They asked, ‘What are the nonnegotiable scenes or elements that must be included?’ They were collaborative in that regard. However, the final decisions rested entirely with the creative team.”

Even with her insights, Kennedy mentioned to Us that she didn’t have “specific” demands for what should appear on screen.

“I entered this project knowing that some modifications would be necessary. Adaptations always require that, especially since the book is written in the first person, which means you’re often privy to characters’ thoughts. They have to find alternative methods to convey those,” Kennedy explained. “Ultimately, I just wanted the dynamics of the relationships to shine through. … I want to see the relationships and characters in whatever circumstances they face.”

Off Campus is currently streaming on Prime Video.
